Senior Software Engineer, Agentic Commerce

Its services protect and speed up any Internet application without extra hardware, software installs, or code changes, and traffic on its network gets smarter with each request, improving performance and cutting spam and attacks.

You will join Emerging Technologies & Incubation, the group that builds new products on top of the company's edge and network. The Agentic Commerce team builds the infrastructure that lets web content and services be paid for by AI agents. As agents browse, use, and act on the web, payment and authorization models designed for humans stop working, so the team is building tools that let anyone monetize access to content, data, services, products, and outcomes, wherever they are hosted.

The work includes high-throughput web infrastructure, low-latency transaction processing, usage metering, outcome verification, digital wallets, and agentic payment protocols such as x402, WBA, ACP, and UCP. The team connects mainstream fiat payment rails with decentralized protocols to make micro-payments possible at Internet scale.

The team is small and collaborative. Members communicate often, celebrate wins, help each other recover from mistakes, and hold themselves to a high bar.

The company wants builders who notice the problems people have accepted as normal and who use AI tools to solve them, rather than waiting for a finished roadmap. It values iteration, shipping quickly with AI help, and sharing every improvement with the team. Curiosity matters more than bureaucracy.

Responsibilities

• Design and build resilient, low-latency core systems that let autonomous agents pay for web resources using x402, WBA, ACP, and UCP.
• Write RFCs and architecture designs that developers in the team and in other engineering groups can build from.
• Work directly with customers and Product Management to clarify requirements, set measurable KPIs, and turn business needs into scalable architecture.
• Simplify the team's code, design services that recover cleanly from internal and external failures, and improve observability across systems.
• Lead complex incident responses, retrospectives, and root-cause analyses, and drive work that prevents customer escalations and cuts alert volume.
• Diagnose and fix hard problems that span several teams, services, and protocols, and teach others how to approach similar issues.
• Mentor engineers, improve engineering and interview processes, lead major spec and code reviews, and share knowledge through talks and writing.
• Shape product and engineering roadmaps across the company, and serve as the main reviewer for large systems.

Requirements

• Deep software engineering and distributed systems experience, including designing, building, and running high-throughput, low-latency production services.
• Broad experience with HTTP, API design, payment protocols and rails, web security, and cryptographic authorization.
• Experience defining product KPIs and turning complex customer and product needs into clear architecture roadmaps.
• A record of debugging complex distributed failures that cross teams and systems, with a focus on fixing root causes across the system.
• A strong record of mentoring engineers, leading incident retrospectives, and driving process improvements within and beyond your own team.
• Ability to prototype quickly, weigh hard architectural trade-offs, and set design patterns in a new technical field.
• Excellent technical writing and communication, including RFCs and specifications that several engineering organizations rely on.
• Nice to have: fluency in Rust, especially async Rust, or in TypeScript/JavaScript edge runtimes such as the company Workers, Durable Objects, and KV, at system-architecture scale.
• Nice to have: deep knowledge of agentic payment protocols (x402, A2P, ACP, UCP, Web Bot Auth) or digital wallet architecture.
• Nice to have: experience designing high-precision event metering pipelines, usage-based billing engines, outcome verification systems, or revenue attribution tools.
• Nice to have: experience with smart contract bridges, cryptography such as public-key encryption, signatures, and hashes, or hybrid fiat and crypto payment infrastructure.
• Nice to have: active contributions to open-source payment systems, agent protocols, web standards, or distributed systems projects.
• Nice to have: experience training interviewers, closing candidates, or setting company-wide technical standards.

Conditions

Location: Lisbon or London, hybrid.

For hires based in Portugal, estimated annual salary is €66,000 to €91,000.

The final offer will include time off in line with applicable law and collective bargaining agreements.

The role is eligible to join the company's equity plan.
