Senior Software Engineer — Support Tooling

Description

The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Support Tooling team in Tallinn.

The team builds and runs the internal systems that let Customer Support agents help millions of customers quickly, dependably and at large scale.

The aim is to make support work smooth by giving agents the right tools, data and workflows to solve problems, while keeping the systems secure, scalable and simple to maintain.

You'll own the core tooling agents rely on every day. The work centres on a complex, distributed Java system, with many chances to improve customer support.

In a new workstream, you'll work with Product colleagues to decide where agent tooling goes next, weighing new product capabilities against technical improvements and long-term reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve a complex Java backend, making technical decisions and handling its development, testing and deployment.
• Work through distributed-systems problems such as concurrency, service-to-service communication, data consistency and reliability.
• Improve the tools Customer Support agents use, so they resolve issues faster and give customers a better experience.
• Lead technical improvements and tech debt work, deciding pragmatically when to build features and when to maintain and strengthen the system.
• Work with Product Managers and operational stakeholders to understand problems, influence priorities and help shape the team roadmap.
• Build interfaces and workflows for agents in React when needed.
• Take initiatives end to end, from spotting an opportunity to shipping it in production.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on Java experience building and maintaining complex backend systems in production.
• Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous communication, including Kafka and service-to-service integrations.
• Solid grasp of concurrency and parallel processing, including thread safety, distributed locking and eventual consistency.
• Able to work independently on complex technical problems, from choosing the right approach through to delivery.
• Strong product mindset, understanding user needs and making engineering decisions based on customer impact.
• Pragmatic about tech debt, maintenance and feature development, balancing short-term delivery with long-term system quality.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with Product Managers, operational teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willing to work across the stack, particularly React. You don't need to be a frontend specialist, but should be comfortable learning and contributing beyond the backend.
• Experience developing backend-heavy products with complex workflows.
• Previous experience building internal tools or systems used by operational teams.
• Hands-on experience with React and building user-facing applications.
