Description

The team supports Department of War PPBE applications, the systems used to plan, program, budget, and execute defense work.

You will help build and keep running mission-critical financial and planning software that modernizes how the DoW plans and budgets.

You own software architecture end to end, from full-stack development to agentic AI features such as LLM-enabled functions and intelligent document processing, among other areas.

The role also sets the standard for design, testing, code review, and ownership as the team grows. Strong fundamentals and federal experience are essential.

Work takes place in both unclassified and classified environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build, run, and maintain full-stack applications in React, TypeScript, NodeJS, Python, and.NET.
  • Set the bar for sound design, automated testing, code review, and taking ownership of finished work.
  • Integrate AI features into production systems, including LLM and GenAI APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Bedrock, RAG pipelines, and agentic workflows, following the team's existing patterns.
  • Design API integrations that handle errors well and degrade gracefully.
  • Coach junior developers through code reviews, pair programming, and technical advice.
  • Fix system defects as they come up.
  • Resolve security vulnerabilities and keep work in line with DoW cybersecurity standards.
  • Take part in GitLab CI/CD pipelines and shared development workflows.
  • Write up technical implementations and keep up with relevant technology changes.

Requirements

  • Hold a current Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Hold the Security+ certification.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, or a related STEM field.
  • Bring 10+ years of professional software development across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Have recently delivered software for federal clients, including DoD, DoW, or other agencies, and understand the limits federal environments impose.
  • Work directly in our stack: Python, JavaScript or TypeScript, and React, NodeJS, or.NET.
  • Show strong engineering discipline in design, testing, code review, and ownership.
  • Have experience with RESTful APIs and system integration.
  • Be proficient with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Have worked with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speaking.
  • Desired: Some exposure to or interest in AI-enabled engineering, including LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, agentic patterns, vector databases (Chroma, Weaviate, pgvector), orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, Agno, CrewAI), and LLM observability tools (Phoenix, LangFuse, LangSmith).
  • Desired: Knowledge of DoD PPBE processes, defense budget formulation (POM, BES, J-Books, FYDP), or DoD financial systems such as NGRMS, GFEBS, DAI, and DEAMS.
  • Desired: Experience with AWS GovCloud, AWS Bedrock, or Azure OpenAI Service.
  • Desired: Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Desired: Familiarity with ATO processes, NIST frameworks, or FedRAMP.
  • Desired: Familiarity with Agile methods and Jira.
