Senior Software Engineer, Platform

Description

The platform combines search with AI, and the company's cloud products cover search, security and observability.

The team builds and runs the control plane services for self-managed, hosted and serverless deployments, and works to move them further onto Kubernetes.

These services form the orchestration layer of the company's cloud, letting users create new clusters or grow existing ones.

The services run on several cloud providers and are built with Docker, Kubernetes, Go, Scala, Java and custom orchestration.

The team is spread across many countries and time zones and is known for creative, resourceful problem solving.

Work covers coding, technical design, debugging complex failures, improving security, fixing bugs, building features, and reviewing how the current systems can be refactored for better operations and service quality.

Responsibilities

• Help develop and evolve the IAM codebases behind the company's cloud offerings.
• Take part in the on-call rotation and resolve production incidents.
• Work with Support engineers on customer problems.
• Improve existing services for security, stability and reliability.
• Design, build and maintain software for the cloud offerings and on-prem services.
• Debug production issues in distributed systems, virtualization, containers and microservices.

Requirements

• A track record of excellent software engineering, with high-quality code shipped to production.
• Solid experience with JVM-based languages.
• 3+ years as a backend engineer in IAM, or 5+ years as a backend engineer.
• A strong drive to automate work and raise the quality bar.
• Strong analytical, debugging and problem-solving skills.
• A proven record of using AI to speed up development, debug complex systems and optimize code, while taking ownership of the final results.
• Ability to work across teams and move between projects, codebases or teams as business priorities change.
• Ability to work independently and drive decisions in a distributed team through asynchronous, direct and transparent communication.
• Eligibility to work in DoD Impact Level 5 or higher cloud service environments.
• Bonus: Scala and Golang experience.
• Bonus: depth in one or more technologies relevant to SaaS.
• Bonus: hands-on Kubernetes (k8s) experience.
• Bonus: hands-on experience building software on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Bonus: practical knowledge of Elasticsearch.

Conditions

Pay is base salary only, with no variable compensation.

Typical starting salary range: $133,100 - $210,600 USD.

In select locations (Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA and the New York City Metro Area), the typical starting range is $159,900 - $252,900 USD.

The ranges reflect what the company in good faith expects to pay at posting, may change, and the final pay may be above or below them.

Placement within the range depends on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, location, performance and business needs.

Individuals located in or nationals of Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria or Russia, including the annexed Ukrainian regions of Crimea, DNR, LNR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, may need an export license as a condition of employment; nationality does not affect eligibility.
