Senior Software Engineer - Real Time Systems

The company is building an AI-native continuous intelligence platform for enterprises, investment firms and asset managers. It covers the full primary research process, from study design and expert recruitment through AI-moderated interviews to insight synthesis, cutting weeks of manual work down to hours.

Research today is slow for everyone involved: strategy teams spend hundreds of hours on intermediaries, scheduling and synthesis, while experts face repeated outreach and one-off engagements. The company's expert network lets participants contribute on their own schedule while enabling research at large scale.

The AI Moderator holds thousands of expert conversations each month, capturing purchasing plans, competitive displacement and real-time ROI signals. The platform turns these into time-series outputs covering more than 10,000 public and private companies, which can be queried in natural language. Customers include large enterprises, hedge funds, PE firms, credit investors and venture capital firms.

Responsibilities

• Own the live voice interview layer end to end, which runs for thousands of experts every month and depends on real-time audio streaming, speech-to-text and conversational turn-taking reaching users worldwide.
• Improve and ship the scalable, low-latency voice pipeline covering audio capture, streaming, speech recognition, model orchestration and speech synthesis.
• Evolve the WebSocket infrastructure that keeps sessions stable at scale, including connection lifecycle, session state, message routing, backpressure and reconnection so thousands of concurrent conversations hold up.
• Own the speech-to-text path from incoming audio to accurate, low-latency transcripts, working with STT providers, browser audio APIs and ffmpeg.
• Build systems that scale from thousands to tens of thousands of simultaneous sessions.
• Set and enforce uptime targets, plus reliability, observability and graceful degradation, where a dropped connection means a lost insight.
• Work directly with the founding team to shape technical strategy for the interview platform, making architecture decisions and defending them in code review.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience building software, ideally including time at a startup or fast-paced environment where you owned full features end to end.
• Production experience shipping user-facing real-time systems built on WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming media or multiplayer, keeping them fast and available under load.
• Experience with audio pipelines, speech-to-text, text-to-speech or voice agents, with a working grasp of latency budgets, buffering, codecs and turn-taking.
• Strong backend skills in Node/TypeScript or similar, designing services and APIs for reliability, scale and observability.
• Proficiency in frontend technology, ideally React, with the ability to build responsive, live interfaces.
• Daily use of AI models and agentic coding tools, with an understanding of building real-time experiences around LLMs.
• Able to work independently, communicate proactively and take ownership without ego.

Conditions

Base salary of $160K to $270K, depending on experience.
