Senior Software Engineer - Anti-Abuse

Description

The company is a music platform founded in 2007, hosting over 400+ million tracks from 40 million artists.

The Anti-Abuse Team is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to keep connections between fans and creators safe and genuine, while building and running an abuse prevention platform at global scale.

The team runs a large set of event-driven services that mix specialised and general detection methods, tackling architecture problems where scale, adaptability and quick decisions matter most.

The team is self-directed and combines long-term platform and architecture work with fast reactions to new abuse types.

You would own problems from start to finish, working directly with engineers and T&S professionals.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve reusable platform capabilities and services so other teams can detect and respond to new abuse patterns at scale.
• Define the platform architecture and technical direction, weighing long-term scalability against quick responses to emerging threats.
• Work with Product, Analytics, Trust & Safety professionals and engineers to find abuse patterns across the company, agree on solutions and explain complex technical ideas to varied audiences.
• Take problems from identifying opportunities and designing solutions through to delivery.
• Make practical technical calls that balance cost, latency, complexity, scalability and maintainability.
• Lead architecture discussions, contribute to technical strategy and improve engineering practices, processes and tooling.
• Debug complex problems across data pipelines and distributed systems.
• Keep learning and share industry best practice in abuse prevention and detection.
• Take part in the on-call rotation to keep systems reliable and available.

Requirements

• Extensive professional software engineering experience, including significant work designing and running distributed, event-driven backend systems at scale.
• Hands-on work with infrastructure as code using Terraform, and with cloud-native environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Experience building distributed data processing and ETL pipelines, metrics, and supporting ML infrastructure.
• Experience with microservices, SQL and NoSQL databases, and container technologies.
• You care about the craft: continuous delivery, defensive programming, automated testing, security and clean code.
• You take ownership seriously and work well through unclear situations in fast-moving settings.
• You bring a humble, collaborative, team-first attitude and a willingness to learn and support colleagues.
• Preferred: experience designing APIs and backend services used by several client platforms.
• Preferred: strong SQL skills for very large datasets, such as BigQuery or similar.
• Preferred: knowledge of API communication patterns such as gRPC and GraphQL.
• Preferred: strong professional experience with Go; Scala or another language is a plus.
• Nice to have: experience in abuse prevention, fraud detection or Trust & Safety.
• Nice to have: experience with AI-assisted development tools, and a good sense of their strengths, weaknesses and emerging opportunities.

Conditions

Location: Berlin or London office.
