Description

The Advanced Technology Group sits inside Foundational Systems and Experiences Engineering within the Platform Business Group at a major games and hardware company that is part of Sony Group Corporation.

The group has existed for over 20 years, starting in PlayStation's first-party game studios, and focuses on helping game developers get more from PlayStation hardware.

The team maintains large parts of the graphics software stack used by every PlayStation game and works with engineering teams worldwide, from game developers to hardware vendors, on core platform technology.

The role is a senior engineering position at the centre of PlayStation GPU technology, working alongside a highly experienced team.

Responsibilities

  • Build Razor GPU, a tool for analysing and debugging GPU performance, for current and future PlayStation platforms.
  • Develop GPU capture and replay technology that records GPU commands, shaders and resources, stores them, and reinstates them so graphics frames can be re-executed on the GPU without the game running.
  • Add profiling and debugging features on top of that core technology so game developers can reach the limits of PlayStation hardware.
  • Build internal features that platform software and hardware teams use to improve the graphics software stack and diagnose low-level platform issues.
  • Work with game developers and platform engineers to understand their needs and create tools that are efficient, reliable and scalable, and easy to use for both new and deeply technical engineers.
  • Take features end-to-end, from building core systems to shaping the end-user experience.

Requirements

  • Solve complex problems and design and implement highly reliable, high-performance systems in C++.
  • Debug complex systems, reason about how their parts interact, and find the source of problems.
  • Have experience developing on consoles, especially with console graphics and memory management APIs.
  • Be interested in GPU architecture and low-level graphics engineering.
  • Have used GPU profiling and debugging tools.
  • Be eager to learn and willing to take ownership of features from core systems through to UX design.

Conditions

The company runs background checks at the offer stage for all new employees, which may include criminal background checks for some roles, and needs to process personal information for them.
