Description

The role is a senior embedded software position on the sensor software team, building and maintaining product software for medical devices such as those used in operating rooms and intensive care units.

You will work with agile software teams and with hardware, manufacturing line and principal engineers, and make sure the software meets the applicable requirements and supports regulatory compliance.

The job is based in Vallila, Helsinki, at a site of about 700 staff across engineering, R&D and manufacturing. The site focuses on wearable patient monitoring and covers installed base support, product development, advanced manufacturing and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded components for hardware control, real-time sensor data processing, device drivers, peripherals, RTOS and communication protocols.
  • Build and maintain software and its automated tests, mainly on Windows, with some work on Linux-based tools and environments when needed.
  • Apply Agile and Lean practices across the development cycle, covering security, scalability, documentation, and verification and validation to medical device standards.
  • Create software designs based on sound object-oriented principles and suitable design patterns, and turn system designs into clear class and flow diagrams.
  • Write robust, high-quality code that is efficient, power-optimised, testable and easy to maintain.
  • Lead and carry out hands-on functional and performance testing, troubleshooting and debugging on target hardware.
  • Own assigned development tasks end to end, from planning and implementation through testing, quality and documentation, and communicate clearly in a global, multicultural team.
  • Help improve development methods, tooling, automation and code quality across the team.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in computer, electrical, software or biomedical engineering, physics, or a related field, plus a strong interest in software development and testing.
  • More than 10 years of product software development experience using Agile or Lean methods, including documentation and quality practices.
  • Experience using AI-powered tools across backlog refinement, design, implementation, test generation, code review, debugging and documentation.
  • Proven ability to fold AI-assisted tools into everyday development while keeping software quality, cybersecurity, traceability and regulatory compliance intact.
  • Strong C++ skills, with deep experience in object-oriented design and design patterns.
  • Working knowledge of Git, code review tools and continuous integration.
  • Experience developing and automating tests in Python 3 on target hardware, and testing in simulated environments.
  • Hands-on experience debugging and troubleshooting hardware and embedded systems using logic analysers, oscilloscopes and voltage and current measurements, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Legal authorisation to work in Finland, and ability to work at the Vallila office at least 3 days a week.
  • Desired: familiarity with regulated industries and quality management systems, such as those for medical devices, and their processes.
  • Desired: experience with vital sign measurement and/or respiratory and anaesthetic gas measurement technologies.
  • Desired: a proactive, self-directed approach, with enthusiasm for learning, experimenting and solving complex problems.
