Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack

Description

The company builds a cloud-based contact center platform that uses AI across the customer journey and agent operations. It is built on a cloud-native, CRM-first architecture and does not store PII.

The team is growing and is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack). You would own large, complex epics and features across frontend and backend, and you would be expected to hold a high bar on code style and quality.

As a senior engineer you would set timelines and manage resources and other constraints, split epics into tickets, and mentor L1 and L2 engineers. You would use AI coding tools and agents to speed up your own work without lowering quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Own epics and deliver complex features, services and refactors across product engineering, from ticket breakdown through deployment and post-release checks.
• Set timelines and manage resources and other constraints, raising risks and trade-offs early.
• Break epics into well-scoped tickets and sequence the work with your team.
• Become the subject matter expert for one or more areas of the team's domain and a reliable go-to person.
• Design and build fullstack features and services that are highly available, low latency and auto scalable.
• Write and review technical design documents, shaping service boundaries, data models and APIs for simplicity, performance and extensibility.
• Work with PM, Design, QA, PMO and SRE across the software lifecycle, including planning, estimation and prioritization.
• Write clean, well-tested code and give useful code reviews that keep the codebase to engineering standards.
• Build and maintain unit, integration and contract tests, and add logging, metrics and tracing so production systems can be observed.
• Take part in the on-call rotation, triage and mitigate production incidents, document them, and follow up on postmortem actions.
• Find and reduce technical debt, modernising legacy code to keep it maintainable.
• Use AI coding assistants and agentic workflows to speed up delivery, applying team guardrails and quality standards to their output.
• Mentor L1 and L2 engineers, help with onboarding docs, and share knowledge through brown-bags, internal talks and architecture reviews.
• Communicate openly and clearly, and improve how bugs are tracked and reported in your team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software development experience, including solid fullstack work on frontend and backend and a record of owning complex epics or features.
• Strong grounding in modern distributed computing.
• Ability to reason quantitatively about the performance of the services you own.
• Working experience with several datastores, such as MySQL, NoSQL, Redis or Elasticsearch.
• Good command of software best practice and tools such as Git, Docker, CI and 12factor.
• Experience working in a microservice architecture.
• Able to write efficient code across the stack, in at least one backend language (Java, Go, Ruby or Python) and one modern frontend framework (for example React or Angular).
• Hands-on experience with AI-driven development, such as AI coding assistants and agentic workflows (for example Claude, Copilot or Cursor), and the judgment to use them while keeping code quality high.
• Experience mentoring less experienced engineers and working across functions in a fast-paced setting.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Required to work 2 days per week in the office in Porto, Portugal.
• Portugal hiring range: €60,000 to €70,000 per year. Actual placement within this range depends on location, work experience, education and/or skill level.

Conditions

Hybrid role: 2 days per week in the office in Porto, Portugal.

Salary range for Portugal: €60,000 to €70,000 annually, with placement based on location, experience, education and/or skill level.
