Senior Software Engineer, Backend

Responsibilities

• Own large-scope projects independently, from first discovery through launch, with a focus on results and customer impact.
• Work with a cross-functional team to solve customer problems.
• Improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems.
• Build engineering excellence through technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.
• Add capabilities to the high-volume, fault-tolerant processing infrastructure.
• Strengthen testing, monitoring, and continuous deployment infrastructure.
• Keep highly sensitive data separated and secure.

Requirements

• Work on your own initiative and help others clear obstacles. Stay curious and enjoy learning new technologies.
• Show that you have built, deployed, and maintained large, complex applications.
• Care more about solutions and customer experience than about any specific tool or framework.
• Have at least 5 years of professional hands-on experience.
• Be highly skilled in modern server-side languages. Golang is a plus but not required.
• Be proficient with SQL.
• Be proficient in cloud infrastructure management, preferably AWS.
• Have experience supporting and mentoring engineers and multiplying the team's output.
• Have experience working closely with designers and product managers.
• Show good judgment: analyze problems and their implications, spot patterns, understand risks, plan mitigation, and own the outcome.
• Be resourceful: take a can-do approach under constraints, and make the most of what you have, whether building something new or improving something existing.
• Communicate and work well with others through documentation, collaboration, relationship-building, listening, empathy, recruiting, and advocacy.
• Lead through influence by building a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, mentorship, and forward thinking.

Conditions

The base wage range for this role at the New York City office is targeted at $188,000.00 to $242,000.00 per year.

Actual pay depends on factors such as skill set, relevant experience, and work location. Ranges for other locations may differ based on local labor costs.

The role is hybrid.
