Description

The company is hiring a senior seeker radar engineer to support several new development efforts on its radio-frequency seeker for an air-defense missile.

The seeker supplies target data that lets the missile acquire, intercept and destroy threats such as tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and advanced aircraft, using hit-to-kill technology. The company is the original engineering manufacturer of this seeker.

The seeker team is cross-functional and highly skilled. It puts safety, execution, lean manufacturing and sound business practices first, with the goal of making its seeker the first choice for this missile and future weapon systems.

The role is based at the company's facility in Huntsville, Alabama.

Responsibilities

  • Bring subject matter expertise to algorithm work in radar signal processing, including Kalman filtering, probabilistic and statistical modeling, and measurement processing from pulsed-Doppler waveforms.
  • Design algorithms that turn signal returns into discriminated targets and keep those targets tracked across the mission timeline.
  • Set system performance requirements and confirm that interface definitions support the functional components of the seeker and the missile.
  • Analyze system-of-systems performance and system architecture as they apply to target acquisition and tracking, and optimize them.
  • Study seeker simulation data to find weak points and recommend ways to keep the system robust in harsh operating conditions.
  • Adapt general digital signal processing methods to reradiated signal content so signal characteristics are identified accurately.
  • Help turn algorithm designs into working Ada or C++ software.

Requirements

  • Required: a Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or a non-US equivalent that directly relates to the work.
  • Preferred (Desired Skills/Experience): five years of experience with digital signal processing, radar or digital communications algorithms and techniques, such as equalization, waveform processing, detection, acquisition, discrimination, channel estimation, filter design and resampling theory.
  • Preferred: experience using MATLAB for data analysis, prototyping, modeling and simulation.
  • Preferred: experience with digital signal processing theory and applying its core techniques.
  • Preferred: knowledge of linear signal theory, Fourier transforms and communication theory.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of RF and electrical transmission, signal processing and MATLAB modeling.
  • Preferred: system test experience covering test design, implementation and execution for breadboard and brassboard hardware.
  • Preferred: experience in an independent research and development (IRAD) environment that moves quickly.
  • Preferred: familiarity with several programming languages and development environments, such as C++, Ada and Python, in an Agile setting.
  • Preferred: experience writing formal technical material, such as whitepapers, tech-notes, technical journals and research reports.
  • Preferred: experience moving novel technologies and concepts up the technology readiness level (TRL) scale.
