Description

The company is hiring a Senior Project Manager, Assistant Vice President, reporting to the Head of Project Management Office in Italy. The role sits within the Business Projects and Transformation team of the company Bank International (SSBI) and covers SSBI and its Italian Branch.

You will own the full delivery of complex strategic, regulatory, risk-remediation and transformation initiatives. The role belongs to the Investment Services function, which serves asset managers, asset owners, insurance companies and official institutions worldwide, with client-facing teams working together across all locations, products and capabilities.

This suits someone who wants to shape long-term client relationships and take on demanding project work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex initiatives, including regulatory, internal audit and risk remediation projects, client commitments and system migrations, from start and planning through delivery, closure and handover to the accountable business owners.
  • Set project scope, objectives, plan, deliverables and success measures. Estimate resource and budget needs and manage dependencies across business, technology, risk and control teams, global teams and other SSBI sites.
  • Set up and run project governance. Chair working groups and Steering Committees and produce the reports that local and SSBI governance bodies request.
  • Spot risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies early, define corrective actions and escalate promptly when needed.
  • Keep stakeholders aligned and project communication flowing. Challenge constructively where needed and secure clear ownership and timely decisions.
  • Approve deliverables and close projects formally, recording residual risks, success measures and benefits and summarising lessons learned.
  • Keep project records accurate and auditable under the SSBI project management framework, information-classification rules and applicable record-retention standards.
  • Support demand and portfolio management by assessing new requests, clarifying expected outcomes and dependencies, and helping with sizing, capacity checks and prioritisation.
  • Encourage good project management practice, help colleagues adopt methods and tools, and help improve PM procedures over time.

Requirements

  • A structured, pragmatic approach to planning and delivery, handling several initiatives at once and balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication, including engaging senior management and producing executive-level materials.
  • Clear critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, with a risk-aware outlook.
  • Proven experience running complex, multi-location projects in a matrix organisation, ideally regulatory, remediation or transformation programmes in financial services.
  • Ownership and autonomy, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to see the big picture while keeping an eye on detail.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and the ability to work across regions and cultures.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in economics, business administration, engineering or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of relevant project management experience in banking, asset servicing or a similar setting.
  • Working knowledge of predictive, agile and hybrid delivery approaches. A project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2 or an equivalent is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Excel and PowerPoint, and experience with planning, collaboration and portfolio management tools. Practical AI literacy and familiarity with generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, used responsibly under internal data, confidentiality and AI-use rules.
  • Fluent Italian and English, written and spoken.
  • Desirable: knowledge of custody, depositary bank and fund administration services.
  • A plus: familiarity with the European banking regulatory framework, such as ECB, Bank of Italy and EBA guidelines, and DORA.
  • An advantage: experience working with first- and second-line risk and control functions, Internal Audit, regulators or external auditors.

Conditions

Hybrid working, based in the Milan office, under the company's local hybrid work policy.

Base salary minimum of €67,500 per year. This minimum applies to the primary location stated. If you end up working outside that location, the applicable minimum may be different.

Pay is set by factors including the role, the work performed, individual skills, working hours, diligence, initiative, self-management, length of service, availability, and quality and quantity of output, along with other objective, non-discriminatory criteria.

Equal opportunity: the company does not discriminate on protected characteristics.

Benefits

  • In addition to base pay, you may be eligible, subject to local law, company policy and plan terms, for a benefits package aligned to your country.
  • You may also be considered, at the company's sole discretion, for discretionary annual performance-based awards.
  • Inclusive development opportunities, flexible work-life support, paid volunteer days and employee networks.
