Senior Platform Engineer – AI/ML Infrastructure

The company is a global healthcare technology business. Its Surgical Operating Unit is building products that bring connectivity, real-time guidance and decision support into the operating room, using edge computing.

The Surgical AI Centre of Excellence works with teams across the unit to build a connected ecosystem. It applies data science and computer vision to give the fullest possible view of surgery.

You will join the AI and Data Science Platform team as a senior platform engineer. The cloud and on-prem infrastructure you help run lets software engineers, ML engineers and data scientists ship new products quickly and at scale.

Responsibilities

• Help design, build and run AWS cloud and on-prem infrastructure for ML engineers, data scientists and product teams.
• Handle platform service requests from ML engineers, fix their issues, and make the MLOps platform more reliable and easier to use.
• Work with engineers across teams to align stakeholders and move shared technical work forward.
• Make technical ideas, risks and trade-offs clear in pull requests, design docs, incident reviews and meetings.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Hands-on Kubernetes skills: diagnosing and operating Pods, ReplicaSets, StatefulSets, DaemonSets, Services, PVs/PVCs and Helm deployments.
• A GitOps mindset, with experience of declarative, version-controlled delivery, PR workflows, peer review and approval gates.
• Cloud infrastructure experience. AWS experience strongly preferred.
• Solid grasp of cloud basics: IAM, networking, compute, storage and observability.
• Practical Terraform and/or OpenTofu experience, building infrastructure changes that are maintainable and easy to review.
• Hands-on Docker work, building, debugging and maintaining secure, efficient images.
• Experience running production systems: diagnosing incidents, changing safely, and preventing repeats.
• Able to assess complex platform needs, define practical solutions and deliver with limited supervision.
• A record of improving developer experience, reliability, security, delivery speed or operational efficiency.
• A collaborative team player who communicates openly, gives and takes constructive feedback, and supports colleagues when priorities shift.
• Preferred: exposure to, or direct experience in, a Kanban and/or Scrum role.
• A plus: experience with or knowledge of machine learning.

Conditions

You must be willing to commute to London 2 days per week.

• Pay range in the United Kingdom: 76,800 GBP to 115,200 GBP. The final salary is set by objective, job-related criteria, including relevant experience, skills and qualifications, under the company's compensation framework.
