Senior Linux Platform Engineer

Description

The company is a global quantitative and systematic investment manager trading across all liquid asset classes worldwide, built on data, research, technology and trading expertise.

This is a hands-on lead role in the Research Infrastructure Engineering team, which builds and maintains the high-performance trading and research infrastructure. The team covers operating system platforms, software development tooling, high-performance computing, high-performance networking and large-scale storage.

You will work directly with research and trading teams, with a main focus on Linux-based systems, and partner with other infrastructure engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement workload scheduling.
• Manage systems at large scale.
• Design and run high-performance file systems.
• Own the software design and life cycle (SDLC).
• Tune kernels and networks for low-latency and high-throughput applications.
• Build instrumentation and collect telemetry.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, advise on infrastructure and operations improvements, and run proofs of concept, presenting the results where relevant.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues to improve performance and reliability.

Requirements

• 5+ years of Linux systems administration and platform engineering experience, with a proven record of technical leadership.
• Deep knowledge of performance analysis, tuning and optimisation across Linux kernel, hardware, network and storage.
• Deep knowledge of DevOps tooling, including Terraform and Ansible, and demonstrable use of CI/CD technologies such as GitLab and Jenkins.
• Strong knowledge of Python, Golang or similar programming and scripting languages.
• Strong knowledge of infrastructure metric visualisation with Splunk, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Expertise with container technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
