The company needs a hands-on Senior Platform Architect to own the end-to-end technical architecture of its platform, covering the experience, orchestration, inventory, provisioning, intelligence, and integration layers.
You will decide how those layers connect, set engineering standards for a Java and Spring Boot microservices estate, and lead the team in using AI coding assistants and autonomous agents such as GitHub Copilot, Devin, Claude Code, and similar tools. The work must stay productive, secure, and compliant in a regulated bank.
You are the senior technical authority on the team. You design, write code where it matters most, and help others grow.
Responsibilities
Own the target architecture for every platform layer: developer portal and APIs, workflow orchestration and policy engines, technology registry and metadata catalog, template registry, IaC engine and environment lifecycle manager, AI recommendations and analytics, and integrations with DevOps, CI/CD, cloud, observability, and security tools.
Design cloud-native, event-driven microservices using Java 17 or 21, Spring Boot 3, and Spring Cloud, with Kafka for events and well-governed REST and gRPC APIs.
Define the provisioning model using Infrastructure-as-Code such as Terraform, reusable platform blueprints, and automated, auditable workflows across AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-prem OpenShift.
Design governance-as-code with policy engines such as OPA, security and compliance guardrails, and automated audit evidence.
Set non-functional standards for resiliency, scalability, observability, security, and data protection suited to a Tier-1 bank.
Define how the team uses AI coding assistants and autonomous agents such as GitHub Copilot, Devin, Claude Code, and Cursor across design, coding, test generation, code review, documentation, and modernization.
Create guardrails for AI-generated code: review standards, security and license scanning, secrets handling, rules on which data classes may be shared with AI tools, and alignment with the company's AI governance and model-risk policies.
Design the platform's own AI features: technology and architecture recommendations, adoption insights, cost optimization, and agent-ready interfaces such as APIs or Model Context Protocol endpoints for AI agents.
Define and track AI impact measures: cycle time, PR throughput, change failure rate, and defect escape, using data rather than anecdotes.
Record architecture decisions as ADRs and present the platform at architecture councils and design reviews.
Work with the Director, product owners, security, risk, and cloud platform teams to shape the roadmap and its sequence: Inventory Foundation, then Orchestration, then Intelligence.
Mentor senior developers, run design and code reviews, and raise the engineering bar across the team.
Stay hands-on by building reference implementations, spikes, and the platform's critical paths.
Requirements
10+ years of software engineering experience, including 6+ years as an architect on large-scale distributed systems.
Deep, current expertise in Java 17 or later and the Spring ecosystem: Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Spring Data.
Proven experience designing microservices, event-driven systems using Kafka or an equivalent, API design, and API gateway patterns.
Strong working knowledge of Kubernetes or OpenShift, containers, and at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Helm, or Ansible, and with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, Harness, GitHub Actions, or Tekton.
Demonstrated hands-on use of AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Devin, Claude Code, or Cursor in real delivery work, with a clear view of where they help, where they fail, and how to govern them.
Working understanding of LLM fundamentals for engineering: context and prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, hallucination risk, and evaluation.
Experience with security-by-design, DevSecOps, and working in a regulated environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present architecture to senior executives and defend it before architecture councils.
Preferred: multi-cloud experience.
Preferred: experience building an Internal Developer Platform or developer portal such as Backstage, a service catalog, or a CMDB-integrated technology inventory.
Preferred: experience with workflow orchestration engines such as Temporal, Camunda, or Argo Workflows, and policy-as-code tools such as OPA/Gatekeeper or Kyverno.
Preferred: experience rolling out AI coding assistants or agentic tools across a team or organization, including measurement and governance.
Preferred: familiarity with Model Context Protocol or with building tools and APIs used by AI agents.
Preferred: background in financial services or another Tier-1 regulated enterprise.
Preferred: cloud or Kubernetes certifications such as AWS, Azure, or GCP Professional Architect, CKA, or CKAD.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred: a Master's degree.
