Description

The company makes surgical robotic systems and aims to improve surgical outcomes while making procedures less invasive, with patient safety as its top priority.

You will join the Automation, Equipment and Test (AET) team, which builds and maintains the equipment, fixtures and tooling used to manufacture instruments and accessories.

You will help design and build new surgical robotic systems, instruments and accessories. Your work will focus on software and algorithms for custom semi-automated electro-mechanical systems that ensure product performance, reliability and safety. You will also help shape the architecture of the manufacturing platform and its applications.

You will work closely with product development, systems, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and quality engineers to define a diagnostic strategy and build the software that carries it out.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement software for equipment that builds and tests robotic systems, instruments and accessories.
  • Build and maintain software infrastructure that turns the data generated by manufacturing into useful insight.
  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to raise efficiency, lower costs and boost productivity.
  • Learn how products operate and are controlled, and build ways to protect their integrity during volume production.
  • Document, lead and carry out IQOQPQ and DQ validation of manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and follow sound software development practices, and document them.
  • Work on your own to clear blockers, needing only minimal guidance.
  • Own the manufacturing software and drive projects to completion with cross-functional teams.
  • Support and improve existing production software.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Strong command of modern programming languages, frameworks and tools. C and Python are a plus.
  • Solid grasp of OOP, OOD, design patterns and software architecture.
  • Enthusiasm for technology and for writing code.
  • Ability to take software from initial concept through design, development, testing and launch.
  • Sound judgment in choosing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to reach results.
  • Experience integrating software with hardware such as PLCs, sensors and robots.
  • Experience leading projects from planning through delivery, keeping stakeholders updated on progress and blockers.
  • Quick to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods.
  • Drive to keep improving best practices.
  • Comfort working with unclear and changing requirements.
  • Clear communication, both verbal and non-verbal, with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Build team strength with peers by asking for feedback and contributing constructively in reviews.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong analytical, structured problem-solving skills for diagnosing and fixing complex technical issues.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering. Software Engineering or Computer Science is preferred.
  • 6+ years of software design and development experience. A higher degree can offset some of these years.
  • Preferred: experience architecting and developing scalable, production-grade software systems.
  • Preferred: thorough understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Preferred: familiarity with data engineering, particularly in industrial settings.
  • Preferred: experience developing robotic or electro-mechanical systems, including control systems.
  • Preferred: experience in medical device manufacturing or another regulated engineering environment.
  • Preferred: knowledge of software security principles and practices.
  • Preferred: knowledge of control systems and industrial automation protocols such as Modbus, OPC and Ethernet/IP.

Conditions

The company and/or its customers may require current proof of vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19. Requirements vary by role.

Some roles may be subject to U.S. export controls, which can apply to nationals of countries under embargo or sanctions. Information in your application may be used to decide whether an export license or a Technology Control Plan is needed. A license can take 3 to 6+ months, and a TCP typically adds 2 weeks. Final offers for export-controlled roles depend on an approved license and/or executed TCP before the start date. Candidates will be told of any steps required.

Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered in line with fair chance laws.

Preference goes to qualified candidates who do not live, and do not plan to live, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Tennessee.

The job level may differ from the one listed, depending on business need and the selected candidate's experience, knowledge and skills.

Pay depends mainly on the job level the role is filled at and the candidate's qualifications, within legal limits.
