Description

The role sits in the Retirement group, which builds products that help employers get more value from workplace retirement plans and help individuals reach better retirement outcomes. The group serves plan providers, sponsors, advisors, consultants and participants, and its technology and investment-based offerings are growing quickly.

You will lead the North America engineering teams behind Plan Advantage and Fiduciary Services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the North America engineering teams that support Plan Advantage and Fiduciary Services.
  • Recruit, coach and grow technical leads and engineers, building a team that takes ownership, holds itself accountable and keeps learning.
  • Set clear ownership, decision-making practices, architecture and design review standards, and consistent engineering expectations, so technical leads and their teams can work independently and deliver predictably.
  • Keep improving how teams build and run software through modern development practices, automation and operational excellence.
  • Guide teams as they move from AI-assisted work to agentic engineering, where engineers set direction, define the context and guardrails agents work within, and check results instead of writing every implementation themselves.
  • Build the environment that makes agent-written code trustworthy: shared context, automated checks that enforce standards, and feedback that catches defects before human review.
  • Keep engineers accountable for what ships, since AI-generated work does not reduce that responsibility.
  • Track whether this works by measuring cycle time across the whole delivery lifecycle rather than coding alone, rework on agent-written code, and quality, security, compliance and accessibility.
  • Own delivery of initiatives that span several applications and teams by aligning people, managing dependencies, clearing blockers and keeping work moving.
  • Work closely with Product Management to shape roadmaps, clarify priorities and balance near-term needs against platform modernization.
  • Build strong relationships across engineering and product, encouraging direct conversations, shared ownership and joint problem solving.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams with direct people management.
  • Deep technical knowledge of distributed systems, including service architecture, API design, data consistency, resiliency and performance, and the ability to spot scalability and operational risks in designs.
  • Hands-on skill in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and cloud-native development on AWS.
  • Enough front-end depth in component-based JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks to review full-stack designs end to end.
  • Ability to review architecture, designs and code and give technical guidance to engineering teams.
  • Track record of delivering complex initiatives across several teams and applications, driving execution, managing dependencies and resolving cross-team technical problems.
  • Experience with AI-assisted engineering, including coding agents and AI-assisted code review, testing and documentation, and the ability to set guardrails, verification practices and standards without lowering quality, security or engineering judgment.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability, SLOs, secure SDLC and cloud-native operations.
  • Experience growing engineers and technical leads into broader technical and leadership roles.
  • Ability to build collaborative teams that value ownership, accountability, continuous improvement and direct cross-functional communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence technical decisions, work through ambiguity and build trusted partnerships across groups.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Conditions

Total cash compensation (base plus bonus target) is 112,583 to 162,125 CAD, with an incentive target of 20%.

If you accept an offer, you must disclose your personal and related investments confidentially to the Compliance team within a timeframe that varies by region. Investments are reviewed against the Code of Ethics, and any conflicts of interest require you to sell those holdings immediately.

Depending on your department and location, some employee accounts must be held with an approved broker, for example all U.S. employee accounts. If your account is not with an approved broker, you must move your holdings to one.

The hybrid model is four days in the office each week in most locations, so teams can meet in person regularly. Other flexible arrangements are available, and you will have tools to work with colleagues worldwide wherever you are.

Benefits

  • A range of additional benefits is available to support flexibility as your needs change.
