The Retirement group builds products that help employers get more value from workplace retirement plans and help individuals reach better retirement outcomes. The product line spans technology and investment-based solutions and serves plan providers, sponsors, advisors, consultants, and participants.
This role leads the North America engineering teams behind the company Plan Advantage and Fiduciary Services.
Responsibilities
Lead North America engineering teams, hiring, coaching, and developing technical leads and engineers who take ownership, own their accountability, and keep learning.
Set clear ownership, decision-making practices, architecture and design review standards, and consistent engineering expectations, so technical leads and their teams can work independently and deliver predictably.
Keep improving how teams build and run software through modern development practices, automation, and operational excellence.
Guide teams as they move from AI-assisted work to agentic engineering, where engineers set direction, define the context and guardrails agents work within, and verify results instead of writing the implementation themselves.
Build the environment that makes agent-written work trustworthy: shared context, automated checks that enforce standards, and feedback that catches defects before human review. Engineers stay accountable for what ships, whoever or whatever wrote it.
Measure the results by tracking cycle time across the full delivery lifecycle, not just coding, and rework rate on agent-written work, while holding quality, security, compliance, and accessibility to the same standard.
Own delivery of initiatives that span several applications and teams by aligning people, managing dependencies, clearing blockers, and keeping work moving.
Work with Product Management to shape roadmaps and priorities, balancing near-term needs against platform modernization.
Build strong relationships across engineering and product, encouraging direct communication, shared ownership, and joint problem solving.
Requirements
8+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams with direct people management.
Deep understanding of distributed systems, including service architecture, API design, data consistency, resiliency, and performance, and the ability to review designs for scalability and operational risk.
Hands-on skill with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and cloud-native development on AWS. You also have enough front-end depth in modern component-based JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks to review full-stack designs end to end, and you can review architecture, designs, and code and give engineering teams technical guidance.
A record of delivering complex initiatives across several teams and applications, driving execution, managing dependencies, and resolving cross-team technical problems.
Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools, such as coding agents, AI-assisted code review, testing, and documentation. You can set guardrails, verification practices, and engineering standards that keep quality, security, and sound judgment intact.
Working knowledge of modern engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing, observability, SLOs, secure SDLC, and cloud-native operations.
A track record of growing engineers and technical leads into broader technical and leadership roles.
A history of building collaborative teams and fostering ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and direct communication across functions.
Strong written and verbal communication. You can influence technical decisions, work through ambiguity, and build trust across groups.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
