Description

The company engineers ship thousands of changes a day across hundreds of services, and the Continuous Delivery team builds the platform that lets them do it safely without delivery controls slowing them down.

AI-assisted development is raising the volume and speed of software changes. The platform must keep its safety and reliability bar while adapting to code and configuration that AI tools and agents increasingly generate.

This is a hands-on engineering role on the team that owns the company's Continuous Delivery platform. Most of your work will be in Java and Go, extending Spinnaker and building the services and integrations around it.

You will have real room to shape the platform's technical direction. You will take work from initial discovery and design through to building and running it, partnering with teams across Platform Engineering and the wider company.

The role suits someone who likes distributed systems and shared infrastructure, where one small design choice can reach hundreds of services. You will use deployment data, reliability metrics and engineer feedback to decide where the team invests next.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and run capabilities within the Continuous Delivery platform.
  • Develop the team's use of Spinnaker, the open source CD tool, and contribute improvements upstream where it makes sense.
  • Build dependable guardrails that let engineers ship changes safely with little manual work.
  • Strengthen the shared foundations of the platform together with other Platform Engineering teams.
  • Use telemetry and feedback to see how the platform behaves and where engineers get stuck.
  • Work directly with engineering teams as they adopt new deployment patterns and platform features.
  • Take part in technical design, code reviews and documentation, and help other engineers grow.

Requirements

  • Strong experience building and running production systems in Java.
  • Experience designing distributed services and APIs, covering testing, monitoring and handling failures.
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud platform such as AWS or GCP.
  • Experience with containers and an orchestration platform such as Kubernetes.
  • A track record of automating operational work and building tooling that can be reused.
  • Experience owning shared or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • The ability to turn complex requirements into solutions that are easy to understand and maintain.
  • A readiness to question existing approaches, share your knowledge and learn from others.
  • Experience uncovering complex problems that span multiple teams and business functions.
  • Experience with Spinnaker or another large-scale CI/CD platform. Prior Spinnaker experience is not required; engineering fundamentals and experience running systems at scale matter more.
  • Practical experience applying SRE practices such as service-level objectives, error budgets and automated incident prevention.
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic or distributed tracing.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking and security.
  • Experience in a regulated environment or with standards such as PCI DSS.
  • Experience with capacity planning, performance testing or load testing.
  • Experience writing clear technical documentation and architecture diagrams.

Conditions

Starting salary of £87,500 to £111,000, plus RSUs.

Benefits

  • Real influence over a platform that engineers across the company rely on.
  • The chance to solve engineering problems at company-wide scale.
  • Room to contribute to open source software.
  • Support to grow your technical leadership and to help other teams improve how they deliver software.
  • A flexible working environment and regular team and company events.
