Senior Java Lead Developer

The company has operated for over 200 years and this role sits in its banking technology division.

This is an individual contributor position focused on middleware platforms that must be scalable, reliable and secure.

You will work hands-on and set the technical bar through your own code and design choices.

Responsibilities

• Help set and maintain the long-term technical direction and architecture for core middleware platforms built on Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, microservices, GraphQL and NoSQL databases.
• Promote engineering standards, patterns and practices that support scale, reliability, security and maintainability across projects.
• Lead through your own coding and design work, and mentor senior and junior engineers so they build skills and share solutions.
• Apply DevSecOps and SRE practices in daily work to keep critical production systems available, fast, secure and efficient.
• Find and reduce technical debt, manage system risk and build strong disaster recovery capability.
• Advise senior business leaders and product owners, turning business needs into clear technical designs and explaining decisions and progress to varied audiences.
• Explore and test new technologies and architecture approaches, such as Apache Flink and AI, to improve products and engineering productivity.
• Use AI tools in your daily work to speed up development and problem-solving.
• Work with engineers, technical leads, product managers and operations to align designs and integrate solutions, influencing decisions through your expertise.
• Own the on-time delivery of complex, high-quality, user-focused components, lead design, code and security reviews, and contribute to technical documentation.

Requirements

• Required: 7+ years of progressive backend software development experience, including owning the design and delivery of large, complex projects as a senior individual contributor.
• Required: a proven record of designing and building middleware ecosystems using sound architectural patterns for scalability, reliability, security and maintainability.
• Required: deep hands-on expertise with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, microservices, GraphQL and NoSQL databases, plus experience with high-volume, low-latency distributed systems.
• Required: a demonstrated ability to architect scalable, resilient, secure and high-performing distributed systems.
• Required: expert knowledge of the SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps and SRE, backed by extensive practical experience.
• Required: excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain complex concepts to varied audiences and work with business and technical stakeholders.
• Required: a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field.
• Plus: a Master's degree or equivalent advanced professional qualifications.
• Plus: experience with Apache Flink is a significant advantage.
• Collaborative, and pragmatic about adopting emerging technology.

Conditions

Full-time position based in Irving, Texas, United States.

The salary range for the primary location is $125,760.00 to $188,640.00.

Eligible employees may also receive discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
