Description

The company is the FinTech division of a larger financial services group, and its technology supports investment managers worldwide.

The engineering organization is modernizing its Wealth Management platform, a large, mature and business-critical estate, moving it toward a modern architecture and engineering model built on Java, Azure, Kafka, Kubernetes and Snowflake.

The platform stays live for clients every day while this change happens.

The work is hard. The system carries years of legacy technology, dependencies between systems and teams, and the controls expected in a highly regulated industry. The team still aims to simplify, automate and improve what it can, and to make engineering more effective and more enjoyable.

For experienced engineers and leaders, the role offers insight into how large-scale modernization works in practice, where architecture, technology, business, risk and people meet.

The environment is not a perfectly prepared greenfield setting. You will help build the engineering environment the team wants to work in.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers on both technical matters and people management.
  • Work hands-on in architecture, design and implementation alongside the team.
  • Design and build complex changes using Java, Spring, Kafka, APIs and relational databases.
  • Guide the platform toward a more modular, cloud-oriented architecture.
  • Make practical engineering choices that weigh modernization against the needs of a production system the business relies on.
  • Raise the quality of testing, CI/CD, observability, automation, reliability and developer experience.
  • Coordinate technical work and dependencies between teams.
  • Mentor engineers and support their technical and professional growth.
  • Question unnecessary complexity and keep improving how engineering gets done.
  • Take ownership and drive difficult problems forward.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • 2+ years leading engineering teams, including managing people.
  • Solid knowledge of Java, Spring, SQL and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Kafka, APIs and microservices.
  • Experience leading a team of 6 to 10 engineers.
  • Strong software design and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work effectively in complex existing systems, not only greenfield projects.
  • Sound technical judgment and willingness to challenge existing approaches constructively.
  • Persistence and drive to keep work moving through ambiguity, dependencies and setbacks.
  • Not required, but useful: experience with Azure, Kubernetes, Snowflake, React, CI/CD, observability, financial services, Wealth Management and large-scale platform modernization.
  • You do not need every item above. The company values your ability to learn, reason about complex systems and make sound engineering decisions.
  • You will likely enjoy this role if you like difficult engineering problems with real-world constraints, want to shape architecture rather than only deliver tickets, and will challenge the status quo constructively.

Conditions

Permanent contract from the first day.

The minimum annual salary of zł182,004 applies to the primary location and may differ if the role is performed elsewhere.

Pay depends on factors such as position, type of work, skills, working hours, initiative, length of employment, availability and quality of output, along with other objective, non-discriminatory criteria.

The company is committed to an environment where every employee feels valued.

Benefits

  • Discretionary annual performance-based awards, in addition to salary.
  • Extra days off: a birthday day off, and days off for the 3rd and 5th work anniversaries.
  • Gold medical package covering the employee and their family, including partner and children.
  • Premium life insurance and a private pension plan.
  • Range of soft skills training, technical workshops, language classes and development programs.
  • Paid time to volunteer for company initiatives, employee networks or organizations of your choice.
  • Well-being programs.
  • Additional benefits depending on the seniority of the role.
