Description

The company designs, builds and runs the largest fleet of imaging satellites ever flown, and sells the data through a cloud platform to customers in commercial, environmental and humanitarian work.

The company builds its own hardware, runs its own manufacturing and data processing, and writes its own software, so the team mixes people from many disciplines.

The team is spread across the world, with offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and The Netherlands.

The Infra Solutions team is small and multi-disciplinary. Its members run systems as well as build them, and they handle difficult conversations as easily as code reviews.

The team serves every engineering team at the company, and teams choose to use it because it reduces their workload. Each team that moves onto the platform is infrastructure the company no longer has to duplicate, secure or pay for.

Most work is hands-on engagements with teams that are stuck, mid-migration or joining the platform for the first time. Those teams often bring a proposed fix instead of the underlying problem, and sorting out that gap is where your work starts.

You own each engagement from start to finish: diagnosing the issue, making the fix, arguing for upstream changes and building the lasting artifact that keeps the next team from hitting the same problem.

You have run production systems and write code that other engineers rely on. You get more satisfaction from helping ten teams move faster than from owning one system, and you work well inside teams you do not manage and with people who do not yet see why they need help.

The role is full-time and remote, based in Germany, the Netherlands or Slovenia. If you live near a the company office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with engineering teams to find, unblock and fix complex infrastructure problems.
  • Build reference implementations, tooling and guidance that move teams off deprecated systems without disruption.
  • Serve as the main technical contact for new teams joining the core infrastructure.
  • Merge scattered solutions into supported, standard infrastructure offerings.
  • Design reusable libraries, Terraform modules and Helm charts for patterns that repeat across teams.
  • Add instrumentation and attribution tooling that shows infrastructure cost, usage and adoption.
  • Gather engineering feedback and recurring pain points to shape the infrastructure roadmap.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering, including leading at least one cross-team project or migration.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in technical enablement, developer experience or solutions architecture focused on internal developer productivity.
  • Hands-on experience running and maintaining production infrastructure.
  • Deep Kubernetes skills, including optimizing and operating workloads.
  • Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or another public cloud, including compute, storage, quotas and capacity modes.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Go or Python.
  • Ability to turn vague requirements into structured, actionable engineering tasks.
  • Strong written and spoken communication for technical documentation and working across functions.
  • Nice to have: experience with large-scale block storage (Persistent Disk, Hyperdisk, Ceph, SAN or equivalent) run at fleet scale rather than for a single service.
  • Nice to have: experience driving large migrations or deprecations that needed buy-in from teams outside your reporting line.
  • Nice to have: experience in a consulting-style engineering role (solutions architecture, professional services or technical account engineering) applied to an internal platform.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with workflow orchestration (such as Temporal), batch and job-execution systems or large-scale data pipelines.
  • Nice to have: experience defining and measuring platform adoption through developer-productivity instrumentation, NPS or internal market share.
