Description

The company designs, builds and runs the largest fleet of imaging satellites ever flown, and sells the data through a cloud platform to clients in commercial, environmental and humanitarian work. It is both a space company and a data company, and it builds the hardware, processing and software in-house.

  • Mentor others, lead technical design reviews, protect architectural consistency across the Data Team, and set code quality standards.
  • Design and build end-to-end data solutions, from high-level architecture through implementation, CI/CD, orchestration, automated QA and integration into production.
  • Build production, enterprise-scale data platforms on modern cloud technology that power customer-facing products.

Requirements

  • 6-8 years of relevant data engineering experience, including technical leadership.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience designing and building end-to-end data architectures for global, customer-facing products, with strong attention to data integrity and efficiency.
  • Expert Python and SQL skills for building complex ETL/ELT pipelines, including event-driven architectures.
  • Experience maintaining enterprise-grade, peer-reviewed codebases and advanced CI/CD workflows with GitLab CI, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Significant experience with cloud-native architectures, GCP preferred.
  • Experience tuning storage formats such as Parquet for sub-second query performance for consumers.
  • Strong communication skills, able to translate between technical work and high-level business needs.
  • Proactive, self-starting, and able to lead problem-solving in a fast, high-stakes setting.
  • Nice to have: experience using modern data tooling such as dbt for inputs to customer-facing production systems.
  • Nice to have: experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform to manage cloud architecture.
