Description

The company is an acclaimed video game developer, founded in 2004, that makes AAA games and has won awards.

It works as a single-project studio, pairing genre-defining gameplay with character-driven cinematic storytelling.

The studio is part of a global media group with three segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer and TV Media.

The studio is based in Kentish Town, London, and its multicultural team draws on the city's culture and history, one of the world's most diverse cities.

The team is adding a Senior Gameplay Programmer to a group of gameplay coders who deliver AAA experiences across several platforms. You will build exciting, emergent gameplay by coordinating combat and navigation behaviours for NPCs, giving players freedom and choice.

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop and maintain gameplay systems and features in C++.
  • Solve large, complex gameplay problems, some of which are not clearly defined yet.
  • Work with Design to shape fun, engaging gameplay, flagging risks and opportunities early.
  • Offer suggestions and feedback to teammates, including in code reviews.
  • Take broad ownership of your work and contribute actively to the team.
  • Keep your Lead, your team, Production and other departments informed.
  • Help with production tasks: backlog review, estimating and breaking down tasks, and managing Jira tickets.
  • Follow and promote good development practices.

Requirements

  • Experience building C++ gameplay systems, such as AI, navigation and combat.
  • Understanding of modern gaming platforms and experience developing for one or more of them.
  • Experience helping deliver a commercial game, preferably a AAA title.
  • Strong game design skills, shown through past work, projects or a portfolio.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5.
  • Familiarity with the studio's titles and design philosophy is advantageous.

Conditions

Hybrid role: work from home or the office on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are onsite at the studio in Kentish Town, London, when the team collaborates.

Your working pattern is agreed with your Line Manager under the company's current hybrid policy.

Within legal limits, the company may change this working arrangement where essential to the business, with reasonable notice.

Adjustments are available for disabled candidates during recruitment.
