Description

This is a senior role at VP level in the FX Cross Border Payments and AI Engineer family.

The company's technology team supports business operations in more than 100 countries across institutional and retail lines of business.

The group standardises production platforms and simplifies the IT estate to cut total cost of ownership and create new business capabilities.

FX has physical presence in 83 countries with 1,400 dedicated staff, and it has been central to the company for much of its 200 years.

Technology is a core part of plans to sustain and grow FX, and the team has delivered award-winning applications.

The team values clean, testable code and people who work well together, and it rates that above financial sector experience.

  • Make sure staff follow company policy and procedures, and keep desktop procedures and filing documentation current and thorough.

  • Partner with sales, trading, quants and product to understand payments needs and turn them into data-driven solutions built with technology.
  • Design, develop and test new features in the applications.
  • Keep improving the software development lifecycle and product quality.
  • Provide 3rd line support for the production system, with a dedicated 24h team covering 1st and 2nd line.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Help define and roll out best practices and processes across the department, keeping teams transparent and consistent.

Requirements

  • A master's degree or higher in a STEM discipline, or equivalent education.
  • Proven software engineering and development experience and a solid grasp of how computer systems operate.
  • Hands-on experience with Java and Spring, plus an understanding of ultra-low-latency development practices.
  • Understanding of FX, highly preferred.
  • Well versed in AI coding tools such as Devin, Claude Code and Codex, with production-grade applications delivered using them.
  • A proven record of building new systems, replacing legacy systems and renovating existing ones.
  • Strong SQL and database skills.
  • Strong understanding of messaging technology such as Kafka, Solace and MQ.
  • Experience writing production-scale applications that use caching technologies.
  • Knowledge of systems (software, hardware and networks) to define solutions and troubleshoot issues.
  • An exceptional communicator who enjoys working with people and can speak confidently at every level, from one team to the whole enterprise.
  • A highly credible hands-on engineer who can dig deep into a product and codebase and give detailed, constructive analysis and feedback.
