Description

The company runs a tutoring marketplace where 100,000+ tutors teach 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries.

It reached unicorn status with a $150M Series D and is building toward human-led, AI-enhanced learning at global scale.

The CRM team builds the lifecycle emails, push notifications and in-app messages sent to millions of learners and tutors in every market the company serves.

The team works on the core platform (Python/Django backend, React frontend) and the CRM stack behind messaging, with a focus on more automation and an AI-native communications layer.

The company is tech-agnostic. Engineers with Java/Spring, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Scala/Play, PHP or Go backgrounds are welcome, and Python experience is not required.

The team makes decisions with A/B tests and user feedback, ships in small steps and tracks observability and metrics. The company deploys 50, 60 times per day, and 90%+ of engineers use AI coding tools, with a move toward more autonomous AI-augmented development.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross-functional team with engineers, CRM marketers, localisation specialists, product designers, UX writers and other stakeholders.
  • Lead complex work from discovery to deployment, owning solutions over their full life and balancing urgent product needs with long-term sustainability.
  • Improve how communications are built and shipped with Braze and HTML templating, and build automation and AI-assisted workflows that make campaigns faster and more reliable.
  • Build and own Python/Django backend features, help create new backend services, and design, build or fix integrations with third-party vendors, including the CRM and messaging stack.
  • Build and improve React/TypeScript frontend experiences, support experimentation frameworks and help set frontend practices.
  • Shape the architecture of complex systems to improve scalability, reliability, maintainability and developer productivity.
  • Mentor engineers, run architecture reviews and spread good practice across frontend and backend work.
  • Work with product, data and UX colleagues to find opportunities, test hypotheses through experiments and deliver measurable value to customers.
  • Weigh trade-offs in unclear situations and tie technical investment to business goals and customer impact.
  • Influence technical direction beyond your own scope by working with engineers, managers and stakeholders.
  • Keep raising quality through craftsmanship, curiosity, learning and helping others grow.

Requirements

  • Work comfortably across the stack, building backend services in any major language and working on the frontend.
  • Have built and owned internal tooling or automation that other engineers relied on daily, and accept that driving adoption is part of the job.
  • Deliver production-ready email on your own using a templating language, and understand the rendering limits, email client quirks and testing burden that set email apart from web engineering.
  • Be a forefront user of agentic AI. Bring hands-on experience, influence the team beyond code generation, keep human judgment for architecture, business logic and security, and set up quality gates and safety nets.
  • Have designed and evolved large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, distributed systems, high-volume data flows and scalable patterns, and make sound trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term sustainability.
  • Show that you can influence technical decisions, drive engineering best practices and contribute to architecture within your team.
  • Have a strong product mindset and turn ambiguous business problems into scalable technical solutions using experiments, data and customer insight.
  • Solve complex technical and product problems independently, knowing when to bring others in.
  • Be self-organised and take ownership, with a record of driving initiatives from concept through delivery to measurable outcomes.
  • Communicate well and manage stakeholders across engineering, product, design and data. English level B2 or higher.
  • Have worked in a cross-functional team, taken part in code and design reviews, and raised the engineering bar through knowledge sharing and technical leadership.
  • Understand observability, reliability, monitoring and operational best practices, and be willing to join your squad's on-call rotation.
  • Braze experience is a plus, not a requirement. The team already knows Braze and will share that knowledge with you.

Conditions

On-call rotation: 1 week in every 5 weeks within your squad.

Engineers get direct access to the best available AI tools and the freedom to use and experiment with them as they build.
