The company uses AI to make business TV in bars and restaurants more engaging, profitable and easier to run.
Its computer vision system watches live TV and adds commercials, content and games that fit what is on screen. It also automates the routine AV tasks venues handle every day.
Every product function runs on the company's Android device, installed behind TVs in bars and restaurants across North America, and you would own the software on it. The units sit in AV racks in real venues, run every day, and often have to work around equipment that does not match its spec.
The role goes deep into the embedded stack, covering Android and the video and audio paths the AI relies on. Work includes bringing up new hardware revisions, cutting video latency, fixing HDMI compatibility bugs on particular TV brands, and shaping how the platform grows with the fleet. Your work affects the speed and reliability of every deployed device.
This suits someone who has built and shipped a physical product and enjoys problems where software meets hardware. Ideally you have worked on TVs, AV equipment or other multimedia products. As the most senior embedded engineer, you set technical direction, make architecture decisions, mentor peers and stay hands-on in the code.
Responsibilities
Own the Android platform on the company's hardware, including AOSP builds, framework changes, HALs and the system services that keep a large deployed fleet running.
Write and debug Linux kernel drivers and device trees, and lead board bring-up for new hardware revisions on ARM SoCs.
Build and tune the multimedia pipeline covering video input, hardware codecs and real-time video processing. Own the audio and video paths that feed the on-device AI.
Solve real-world venue AV problems such as HDMI edge cases, EDID quirks, CEC and TV control, and compatibility across thousands of cable boxes and TVs.
Debug across every layer, from app to framework, HAL, kernel and hardware, using remote tools on deployed devices and lab equipment at your desk.
Requirements
You have gone deep on Android, are comfortable in AOSP source, understand the path from an app call to the driver, and have shipped platform-level changes to real devices.
You are at home in the Linux kernel, handling device trees, driver debugging, board bring-up and kernel panics.
You understand multimedia end to end, from capture, encoding and decoding to display, and know where latency builds up.
You debug with real hardware, reaching for a serial console or logic analyzer when logs run out.
You design for fleets, with watchdogs, staged rollouts, remote updates and recovery paths, having supported devices you cannot touch.
You work independently and take a problem from a vague symptom to a shipped fix.
You have 5+ years of embedded software experience, including significant Android platform work (AOSP, framework and HAL development).
You write strong C and C++, are comfortable in Java or Kotlin for framework work, and use Python or shell for tooling.
You have Linux kernel experience writing and debugging drivers, device trees and board bring-up on ARM SoCs.
You have multimedia experience with hardware video codecs and the Android audio HAL.
You have worked with HDMI and AV systems, including video processing, CEC, EDID and display pipelines.
You are fluent with adb, fastboot, git and cross-compilation toolchains.
You hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
You have experience with ARM SoCs used in set-top, TV or streaming products.
You have run ML models on embedded devices using an NPU or GPU.
You have bootloader and Android system update experience, including A/B updates and recovery.
You have shipped a consumer electronics product and supported it in the field at scale.
