Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Description

The company builds sub-systems and components for mission critical systems on modern military vehicles, building on a heritage in electrohydraulic and electromechanical actuation.

The Santa Barbara operation works on stabilized turret drive systems, integrated weapon systems (from mechanical design through fire control electronics and software), ammunition handling, data control and distribution, and power management and distribution.

You would join the software team in the Space and Defense Group and report to the software development manager.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, debug and integrate new capabilities for new and existing turreted weapons systems (RIwP).
• Architect software that is scalable, performant and modular.
• Deliver executable software that meets quality and performance requirements.
• Find and fix problems in existing systems.
• Integrate new capabilities in the Systems Integration Lab and in the field.
• Produce software documentation that meets contract requirements.
• Report project status to management during execution.

Requirements

• At least 5 years designing, developing and testing embedded real-time control software.
• Strong C programming. Java is a plus.
• Experience with operating systems, especially RTOS. Bare metal and embedded Linux are a plus.
• Hands-on work with communication protocol drivers and stacks, such as networking, 1553, UART, SPI and I2C.
• Ability to read electronic part data sheets, electrical schematics and communication protocol documents.
• Unix internals, low-level driver, communication interface and GUI software experience is a plus.
• A Bachelor of Science in electrical, computer or software engineering is desired.
• A Bachelor of Science in another engineering field may be considered with additional experience designing, developing or testing real-time control software.
• Preferred: 7+ years of relevant technical experience.
• Ability to travel approximately 10-15%.
• You must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Conditions

Onsite in Santa Barbara, CA, on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Base salary range is $135,000.00 to $185,000.00 per year.

Pay reflects the range for this role at this location and varies with location, experience and performance. The range is one part of total compensation, which may also include annual bonuses, the stock purchase plan, an open PTO policy and region-specific benefits.

Access to U.S. export-controlled information is required.
