Job Summary

OpenGov is modernizing how governments operate. The infrastructure for that mission must be fast, resilient, and ready to scale. As a Sr. DevOps Engineer, you'll own the design and delivery of the cloud systems, CI/CD pipelines, and security architecture that keep our multi-tenant SaaS platform running for thousands of public sector customers. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who moves fluidly between deep technical execution and cross-functional influence. This engineer builds AI-forward infrastructure that directly shapes how government services are delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and own OpenGov's multi-tenant Azure and AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery readiness at scale.
  • Lead infrastructure-as-code strategy using any IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or Crossplane), driving consistency, repeatability, and auditability across environments.
  • Design, build, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or others) that enable rapid, reliable feature delivery.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization and performance engineering across AWS and Azure services, balancing efficiency with reliability commitments.
  • Own the security posture of cloud infrastructure and partner with compliance teams on SOC2 and StateRamp adherence.
  • Establish and manage observability practices using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, and Azure Monitor.
  • Lead incident response and post-mortem processes with a focus on systemic improvement.
  • Serve as a cross-functional technical advisor to engineering, product, and security teams.
  • Translate business priorities into scalable infrastructure decisions.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, elevate technical standards, and build a culture of operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a deep focus on cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering .
  • 3+ years running Kubernetes at scale in production on public cloud environments (Azure preferred).
  • Proven track record with AWS, Azure, or GCP infrastructure for SaaS applications.
  • Experience includes managed Kubernetes, databases, networking, and RBAC management.
  • Hands-on expertise with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or Crossplane) in production environments.
  • Strong command of CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI, or equivalent) and modern delivery practices.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud security practices, including encryption, RBAC, IAM, and network security architecture.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, Java, or Ruby).
  • Experience with AI-driven developer tooling, workflow automation, or agent-based systems in an engineering context.
  • Familiarity with ArgoCD or other GitOps-based deployment frameworks.
  • Experience with regulated environments and compliance frameworks such as SOC2 or StateRamp.
  • Why OpenGov?
  • A Mission That Matters.
  • At OpenGov, public service is personal. We are passionate about our mission to power more effective and accountable government. Government that operates efficiently, adapts to change, and strengthens public trust. Some people say this is boring. We think it’s the core of our democracy.
  • Opportunity to Innovate
  • The next great wave of innovation is unfolding with AI, and it will impact everything—from the way we work to the way governments interact with their residents. Join a trusted team with the passion, technology, and expertise to drive innovation and bring AI to local government. We’ve touched 2,000 communities so far, and we’re just getting started.
