Description

The role is for a senior computer vision AI/ML engineer who wants hard, new problems. You will bring cutting-edge AI/ML computer vision methods to remote sensing work, focused on Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) and multimodal data fusion across Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture RADAR (SAR) data.

You will take these algorithms from prototype to production, improving them and deploying them to a cloud-hosted environment.

The ideal candidate has researched and built AI/ML computer vision algorithms and has put them into operational use. You will work across several domains alongside a group of researchers and software developers, and you will have the chance to lead and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small group of developers and researchers building AI/ML computer vision solutions for remote sensing problems.
  • Clean and preprocess large remote sensing datasets.
  • Investigate supervised and unsupervised approaches to ATR for remote sensing.
  • Measure how much multimodal data fusion improves ATR across varied data collection conditions.
  • Train, tune, and deploy deep learning vision models that give analysts actionable results.
  • Read recent research, explain its core ideas to government customers, and adapt them for defense and commercial use.
  • Write technical documentation covering your code, program capabilities, and user guides.

Requirements

  • Required: current active TS/SCI government security clearance.
  • Required: bachelor's degree (B.S.) in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Required: 5+ years of experience developing computer vision AI/ML systems.
  • Required: strong Python skills and hands-on use of ML libraries such as PyTorch, Lightning, OpenCV, NumPy, and Polars.
  • Required: experience with supervised and unsupervised learning.
  • Required: experience with Python and at least one of PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch Lightning, scikit-learn or scikit-image, and OpenCV.
  • Required: experience training convolutional vision models such as YOLOv3-11 or YOLOX, or transformer vision models such as Vision Transformer or Swin.
  • Desired: MS or PhD in machine learning, computer science, computer vision, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Desired: experience with self-supervised learning and student-teacher methods such as DINO, knowledge distillation, or BYOL.
  • Desired: experience applying AI/ML to image segmentation, super resolution, denoising, restoration, and Multi-INT fusion.
  • Desired: experience with Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs) for computer vision problems.
  • Desired: experience with image processing chains for SAR, EO, or OPIR data.
  • Desired: experience with overhead imagery datasets such as xView, SpaceNet, Functional Map of the World, xView3, MSTAR, HRSID, CAESAR, or DOTA v1/v2.
  • Desired: familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, and Lambda.
  • Desired: experience versioning code, data, and models.
  • Desired: experience with Linux.
  • Desired: experience with tracking, fusion, and pattern-of-life algorithms.
  • Desired: experience with application deployment, virtualization, and containerization.

Conditions

Full-time, regular position.

Requires an active TS/SCI clearance to start.

Travel of up to 10%, local only.

The posting is expected to close on 12/25/2026.

Salary depends on factors such as location, Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant experience, specific skills, education, and certifications.

The role can be done from more than one location, so the stated range is the national average.

Proposed salary range: $82,100-$172,400.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and benefits, including healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, and continuing education.
  • Flexible time off that lets you manage your own schedule.
