Description

The company's Global Cloud Services group sits at the centre of its digital transformation, building modern cloud infrastructure and engineering capabilities that support the business, its shareholders and patients.

The team is growing and is based in New York. The role is for a strategic technical leader who works across multi-cloud environments, with a focus on security, automation and infrastructure as code.

You will bring deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure), work hands-on with modern engineering practices, and have a record of leading and mentoring technical teams.

The company looks for people who are self-motivated, keen to learn and effective in a team. A strong drive to develop yourself and keep growing is highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and design expertise to keep the digital group using cloud-native design patterns and modern engineering practices.
  • Help the cloud engineering team deliver a secure, compliant, productive and innovative multi-cloud hosting environment at global scale.
  • Lead a small team of 3-5 cloud engineers, guiding and mentoring them and supporting their professional growth.
  • Drive the adoption of modern cloud engineering practices across the organisation.
  • Lead the design, build and management of multi-cloud solutions with a focus on security, scalability and automation.
  • Push infrastructure as code adoption using Terraform, OpenTofu, Spacelift and Python or Pulumi, so cloud resources are deployed efficiently and repeatably.
  • Create modern cloud design patterns and help development teams adopt them.
  • Work with global cloud engineers, developers and product teams to build cloud-native capabilities.
  • Design and set standards for deploying and managing multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Act as escalation point for operational issues and support the on-call engineers when needed, with operational work kept under 5% of your time.
  • Track cloud technology, security trends and engineering practices to keep the infrastructure current and ahead of threats.
  • Find, rank and act on continuous improvement opportunities in the cloud environment.
  • Promote automation-first thinking in all cloud engineering work.
  • Build and refine internal engineering standards while working in a cross-functional, global team.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, computer engineering or a similar field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in cloud engineering or infrastructure roles.
  • At least 2 years leading or managing engineering teams in a technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure), with proven familiarity across several providers.
  • Solid experience building and deploying cloud infrastructure with industry-standard IaC tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu or Pulumi.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language for automation and tooling, with Python strongly preferred.
  • Fast at picking up new technologies and adapting to changing cloud platforms.
  • Clear communicator who can influence peers and leaders across a large, complex, matrixed organisation.
  • Good at setting priorities and identifying the work with the greatest business value.
  • Strong technical leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring and developing other engineers.
  • Customer-focused, with a drive to deliver value at the pace the business needs.
  • Experience combining application hosting needs with cloud infrastructure to build secure, well-architected solutions.
  • Nice to have: multi-cloud experience across AWS, GCP and Azure.
  • Nice to have: expert-level skill building, maintaining and deploying infrastructure as code in a DevOps setting.
  • Nice to have: experience with Spacelift or similar IaC automation platforms.
  • Nice to have: configuration management experience with Ansible or similar tools.
  • Nice to have: experience qualifying cloud services for GxP or other highly regulated environments.
  • Nice to have: cross-functional experience managing cloud infrastructure, security, networking and application development.
