Description

The team is hiring an experienced R&D software developer to build C++ applications for systems where performance is critical. The role is based in Krakow.

You will build fast, secure software in modern C++ (C++17/20), where real-time behaviour, reliability and support across a long product life matter most.

The work sits in the grid automation area of the company, where you help design new solutions for future power systems.

You will join global technology teams with specialist skills. The real-time software you help build runs in critical infrastructure worldwide and must stay reliable, efficient and secure for years.

The company values varied backgrounds and new viewpoints, so you are welcome to apply even if you do not meet every requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Design systems that handle multithreading, synchronisation, I/O and real-time latency targets.
  • Build high-performance C++ cores that plug into managed runtime services such as.NET and Rust, keeping added latency minimal.
  • Tune performance and scalability by profiling thread behaviour, cutting lock contention, reducing allocations on critical paths and keeping latency predictable as load grows.
  • Apply modern C++ practices drawn from the latest standard.
  • Keep code quality high through reviews, unit tests and sound design principles such as SOLID, KISS and DRY, plus industry practice.
  • Help with design and quality in the performance-critical parts of the code.
  • Take part in architecture reviews and write design documents and roadmaps for new features, refactoring and modernising legacy code.
  • Turn requirements from engineering, product and business colleagues into clear architecture.
  • Advise on technology choices: dependencies, build tooling, dependency management and secure supply chain practice.
  • Modernise build systems and keep cross-platform builds consistent across environments, supporting Linux and Windows.
  • Develop and deploy software on Linux.
  • Design, build and deliver quality software that supports business goals.
  • Improve existing systems and build new features.
  • Work in an agile team, widening your technical skills and your grasp of the business domain.
  • Contribute to shared team goals within a cross-disciplinary group.

Requirements

  • A university degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years in senior technical roles.
  • Advanced modern C++ (C++17/20), with a solid grasp of RAII, smart pointers, the STL, concurrency and memory management.
  • Working knowledge of C development (in plus).
  • Hands-on experience with multithreading, synchronisation primitives, asynchronous I/O and real-time design.
  • Working with build systems such as CMake and Visual Studio, and cross-platform work on Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservice architecture patterns.
  • Proven performance profiling, tuning and low-latency work.
  • Sound grasp of software architecture and of designing secure, scalable systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for hard technical challenges.
  • Good grasp of unit and integration testing and test frameworks.
  • Knowledge of non-functional requirements: performance, scalability and security.
  • Practical work on power grid management and monitoring systems, with familiarity with WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data, and protection and control applications.
  • Understanding of power grid operations and the standards that apply.
  • Experience with SCADA, IED and RTU industrial automation systems (in plus).
  • Experience with industrial protocols and standards: IEC 61850, IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA and IEEE C37.118 (in plus).
  • Hands-on work with power grid clients, with some exposure to system integration, simulators or lab environments.
  • A track record of turning customer needs into clear technical designs.
  • Solid grounding in numerical methods, signal processing and control, and in handling high-frequency, time-aligned time-series data.
  • Good understanding of power system dynamics and the stability issues raised by high renewable penetration.
  • An effective team player with strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
