Description

The company is a human-led, tech-enabled learning platform that matches learners with tutors, builds personalised study plans and keeps learners motivated.

After reaching unicorn status with a $150M Series D, it is moving toward AI-enhanced learning. Today 100,000+ tutors teach 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries.

The engineering team builds the tools behind learning, runs A/B tests to measure each change, and tracks monitoring and metrics to keep services performing well.

Python is the main language, but prior experience is not required. The team also welcomes engineers from Java/Spring, Node.js/Express.js, Ruby on Rails, Scala/Play, PHP or Golang, provided they are keen to learn Python and adapt quickly.

The company ships 50-60 releases a day through CI/CD, and more than 90% of its engineers already use AI coding tools.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross-functional squad with a product manager, product designer, UX writers, data analysts, tech leads and engineers to deliver features through A/B tests.
  • Build and own backend features in Python/Django, including new backend services and the design, creation and troubleshooting of third-party vendor integrations.
  • Understand customer needs and help the team define solutions.
  • Weigh short-term development speed against the long-term technical quality of the systems.
  • Guide the team on technical decisions and improve practices such as testing, code reviews, monitoring and scalability.

Requirements

  • Experience with architecture patterns of large, high-scale web applications, such as well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines and efficient algorithms.
  • Hands-on use of agentic AI as a thought partner beyond code generation, keeping your own judgement on architecture, business logic and security, and able to set up quality gates, safety nets and AI-native alternatives to existing workflows.
  • Comfortable taking on small JS/TS tasks when needed.
  • Strong at troubleshooting: finding root causes, mitigating them and putting safeguards in place to prevent repeat issues.
  • Self-organised, with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and a collaborative approach. English at B2 level minimum.

Conditions

On-call duty for your squad, one week in every five weeks.

The office is the Barcelona hub, and a relocation package is offered to candidates who are not in Barcelona.

Benefits

  • A generous monthly allowance for lessons on the platform.
  • A learning and development budget, plus time off to grow your skills.
  • A competitive package including equity, leave allowance and health insurance.
  • Free access to mental health platforms offering support.
  • Wellness and gym centers across Spain through a Gympass partnership.
  • The chance to shape learners' and tutors' lives through language learning and teaching in 175 countries, with more to come.
