Senior Azure FinOps Engineer 100% (f/m/d)

Description

The company is a wealth management firm, and this Cloud Engineering team is shaping how its Azure platform is built and run.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role covering Azure cost optimisation, FinOps engineering, automation and cloud consumption analytics.

You will work with cloud engineers, architects, application teams and FinOps stakeholders to make cloud solutions scalable, reliable and cost-efficient.

Responsibilities

• Analyse Azure consumption and utilisation data, then put optimisations in place across workloads and platform services, such as rightsizing, lifecycle changes, architecture improvements, reservations, savings plans and licensing.
• Build tooling that finds idle, underutilised, oversized or misconfigured Azure resources.
• Automate cost management, reporting, anomaly detection and governance using PowerShell, Azure CLI, APIs, KQL and Infrastructure as Code.
• Create and maintain dashboards, queries, alerts and cost insights with Azure Cost Management, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Resource Graph, Power BI and related Azure tools.
• Design solutions for tagging, cost allocation, showback and chargeback across the Azure platform.
• Work with engineers and architects to improve cost efficiency for compute, storage, databases, networking and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Prepare cost estimates and technical financial analysis for new architectures, services and platform changes.

Requirements

• Solid experience in Azure cost optimisation and FinOps.
• Proven track record of analysing Azure consumption and resource utilisation, finding the technical root causes of inefficiency and delivering lasting fixes.
• Strong grasp of Azure services, subscriptions, management groups, resource governance, tagging, networking, compute, storage and cloud-native architectures.
• Practical use of Azure Cost Management, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Resource Graph, KQL or comparable Azure analytics tools.
• Hands-on SQL and scripting or automation with PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, REST APIs or similar.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform or Bicep, including building optimisation and governance controls into automated cloud processes.
• Working knowledge of Azure purchasing and optimisation models, including Reservations, Savings Plans, licensing and rightsizing.
• Experience with enterprise-scale Azure environments.
• A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Information Systems or a comparable field (HF, FH or university), or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic, self-driven, hands-on approach to engineering.
• Experience with CI/CD and engineering practices in enterprise Azure environments.
• Ability to explain technical findings and recommendations clearly to engineers, architects and non-technical stakeholders.
• Nice to have: experience in banking, financial services or other regulated industries.
• Nice to have: experience with AKS.
• Desirable: Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305.
• Desirable: FinOps certifications.
