Senior Automation Software Engineer

The role is a senior automation software engineer position in Brisbane, Australia. The work suits someone self-driven who handles everything from routine admin to big-picture strategy in a quick-moving setting.

You will design software with established design patterns, choosing pragmatic approaches that keep projects on schedule. Precise, traceable design documentation linked to requirements and test cases matters here, especially UML/SysML sequence diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Analyse component requirements from subsystem requirements and design.
• Analyse component design and produce the component architecture and design specification to meet the SIL 0 requirements of EN 50128.
• Write interface specifications, including message formats.
• Build component software that follows the coding standards.
• Write component test scripts in Python using the in-house test framework.
• Much of the software is safety related, so you will follow software process, coding, cyber security and safety standards such as Cenelec EN 50128.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology or an equivalent field.
• Preferably 5+ years in software development and a proven record of producing quality design documents.
• Working knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, down to object-oriented design.
• Experience with C++, Java or similar object-oriented languages, plus XML, XSLT, MySQL and unit testing frameworks.
• Proven experience writing software requirements.
• Proven experience in object-oriented design.
• Ability to work alone and in a team.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without lowering quality.
• Experience designing or developing real-time or semi-real-time software.
• Rail industry experience is a plus.
