Research Engineer

Description

The company is a global travel technology firm building its next generation of computer vision and digital identity products. As a researcher here, you will take early research ideas and turn them into production-ready vision and ML technology that supports travel products, including a seamless travel offering.

You will join a largely remote research team split between Lisbon and Porto/Gaia. The work spans the whole research cycle, from gathering and labelling data to training models and shipping results. The role suits someone who likes varied problems and picking up new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Help shape the applied research plan for face recognition, image quality and anti-spoofing, and design new biometric capture pipelines.
• Carry research through every stage: data collection, annotation, deep learning training, experiments and delivering results.
• Set up and work with different machines, ecosystems and infrastructure so research keeps moving, not only writing software.
• Help resolve complex technical problems, deployment issues and escalated SDK support requests.
• Encourage good practice in security, governance, quality and software lifecycle management.
• Explore new research directions, contribute to patents and publications, and share what you learn with the team.

Requirements

• 2-3 years of computer vision experience, gained in industry or at a public research institution.
• Solid Python and machine learning skills, including hands-on work training deep learning models on image data.
• Adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity, and confident working across different technologies and tools.
• Independent and resilient, with creative problem-solving and strong communication.
• Nice to have: software engineering and C experience.
• Nice to have: biometrics experience. Internal training is provided, so you can learn this on the job.
