Description

Quality is changing alongside the product, which is becoming more AI-powered, and you will help lead the next phase.

The team is moving from one central QA group to a model where delivery teams own quality end to end, with embedded Quality Engineers supporting them. You will help drive that shift, look across people, process, and systems to choose where to invest, and bring the Quality Engineers together around one shared vision.

This is a player-coach role. You will keep working hands-on in the code and tests, and use that work to guide the Quality Engineers across delivery teams. As the team takes shape, you will help shape how it operates and grows, and the standards you set will apply to every delivery team.

The company is an AI-powered platform for real estate investing. It is used by hundreds of investment firms and has supported more than $10 trillion in transactions. It is at growth stage.

Responsibilities

  • Find where problems can be caught earlier by studying people, process, and systems, then decide on the fix, whether automation, process, tooling, or people.
  • Define the test strategy, release criteria, and shared tooling that every delivery team will build on.
  • Guide the embedded Quality Engineers, lead the QE community of practice, and set the bar for hiring.
  • Review test design and code, and build shared frameworks where the team needs them.
  • Define how AI-powered and agentic features get tested, and coach the team on using AI tools.
  • Run blameless postmortems and publish a scorecard of escape rates and trends for engineering leadership.
  • Work with the VP of Engineering and Engineering Managers on quality culture and the direction of engineering.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in quality engineering, SDET, or a similar role, including leading or guiding a QA team or function. Heads of QA and leaders of QA divisions often fit this role well.
  • Hands-on skill from analysis through test design to automation, with experience in Playwright, Cypress, or similar, and one language common in modern SaaS (TypeScript, Python, or Go).
  • A track record of analyzing a quality process, choosing the metrics that matter, and reducing escaped defects.
  • Experience getting quality practices adopted across Engineering, Product, Design, and Customer Success.
  • Regular use of tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude, with a deliberate review of the output before you rely on it.
  • Experience running blameless postmortems and structured root cause analysis, such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, or CAPA.
  • Comfort working at a fast pace in a growth-stage environment.
  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience writing evals for LLM-based or agentic features, including datasets, graders, LLM-as-judge, and regression suites in CI, using tools such as LangSmith, Braintrust, or DeepEval.
  • Experience using Sentry, Datadog, Pendo, or Amplitude to guide test strategy.
  • Domain experience in real estate, fintech, or enterprise B2B SaaS.
  • Experience leading a move from manual testing to automation.
  • Experience at an AI-era startup.
  • Depth in performance, security, or chaos engineering.
  • Conference talks or open source contributions.
