Description

The company is a joint venture of the company (67%) and Leonardo (33%) and has built space hardware for over 40 years. Its work covers telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, environmental monitoring, exploration, science and orbital infrastructure, and its customers include governments, institutions, space agencies and telecom operators.

The Spanish arm of the group works in defence, aeronautics, security, transport and space, and is a centre of excellence for space, critical infrastructure security and transport. It has a turnover of €320 million, 1,200 staff, and exports about 40% of its output, mainly to the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.

The team is looking for a proactive Project Manager to lead complex space programmes from the proposal and contract award stage through delivery and customer acceptance.

You will run projects across the space portfolio, including RF equipment for telecom satellites, satellite communication and control units, digital onboard processing, ground segment systems, spacecraft control platforms and related test equipment.

You will keep execution on track while balancing customer expectations, technical requirements, cost, quality, schedule and risk. You will work with engineering teams, customers, suppliers and senior leaders in an international setting.

The role calls for strong leadership, stakeholder management and strategic thinking, plus the ability to handle hard technical problems in a specialised, fast-moving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Take end-to-end ownership of delivery against scope, quality, schedule and budget.
  • Build and maintain project plans, milestones, resource allocation and performance indicators.
  • Track progress and adjust plans quickly when new problems or shifting priorities appear.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for customers on all project communication and manage those relationships.
  • Coordinate teams across engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality and support.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks and opportunities across the whole lifecycle.
  • Design and put in place mitigation and contingency plans that limit project exposure.
  • Run governance through regular reports, project reviews and presentations to senior management.
  • Oversee contract commitments and make sure customer requirements are met.
  • Lead continuous improvement of project methods and operational efficiency.
  • Build collaboration, accountability and engagement across the project organisation.
  • Support business development, including proposals, tender reviews, cost estimates and bid management.
  • Use project management practices, tools and digital solutions to give clearer visibility and better decisions.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, project management, business administration or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience running complex technical or engineering projects.
  • Experience managing cross-functional and geographically spread teams.
  • A solid grasp of project management methodologies.
  • Experience running customer-facing projects and contractual commitments.
  • Highly valued: prior work in space, aerospace, defence, telecoms or other high-technology sectors.
  • Preferred: PMP (Project Management Professional) or IPMA certification.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Business acumen with a strategic outlook.
  • Ability to juggle several priorities in a changing environment.
  • Skill in risk management and problem solving, plus negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Financial awareness, covering budgeting, forecasting and cost control.
  • Data-driven decision making based on project performance metrics.
  • Resilience and adaptability under pressure, with attention to detail while keeping the broad picture in view.
  • Fluent English is mandatory.
  • Asset: additional European languages.

Conditions

Hybrid working is available, along with flexible working hours.

Equal opportunity applies to all candidates.

Benefits

  • A competitive pay and benefits package.
  • Free meals at the office.
  • 28 business days of annual leave.
  • Company pension plan.
  • Individual learning and development programmes.
  • Work on cutting-edge space technology and international projects.
  • A collaborative, innovative and multicultural workplace.
  • Career growth in a fast-changing industry, with mobility to work at home or abroad across the group's 17 European sites and its US plant, which employs around 8,900 people in 10 countries.
