Description

This role keeps day-to-day project operations on track so work finishes on schedule and within budget.

You start by helping estimate new and upcoming jobs, then set the execution strategy for large, complex powerline builds by lining up resources against operational goals.

You carry the plan and schedule into the field, oversee safety and quality, and hand out work to the project crew, subcontractors and others.

The company is a diversified construction group based in North America.

Responsibilities

  • Lead health, safety and environmental protection on site by applying the Project Specific Safety Program (PSSP), so that everyone, subcontractors included, meets company HS&E standards and the applicable OH&S Acts, regulations and codes.
  • Run selection, procurement and negotiation of subcontractors and suppliers on complex and design-build projects.
  • Own pursuit estimates by checking direct and indirect costs, and assign and manage bid package work.
  • Carry out quantity takeoffs on large, complex bids, and oversee the takeoff process including review of takeoff summaries.
  • Build and maintain the construction schedule with the project team so milestones and completion dates are met.
  • Run project meetings with internal and external stakeholders to keep the project moving.
  • Track, report and manage project finances, including forecasts and billings.
  • Run the project quality program so materials arrive as specified and work meets standard.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years managing powerline construction or similar utility or industrial construction projects.
  • 3+ years of estimating experience on powerline construction projects in total.
  • Prior experience as a project manager or in a comparable hands-on managerial or supervisory role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drawings, specifications, construction documents, and current practices and methods.
  • Strong negotiation and management skills.
  • A solid grasp of construction costs and budgets, and the ability to plan and manage work to a schedule.
  • Communicate clearly, collaborate with many stakeholders, anticipate their needs, and propose solutions early.
  • A track record of building teams by motivating, coaching and reaching consensus.
  • Post-secondary education in construction, engineering or a related discipline (an asset).

Conditions

Work at remote sites across Western Canada, typically 14 days on and 7 days off.

Office-based when not assigned to a project.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, veteran status or any other identifying characteristic, and adjustments are available at every stage of hiring on request.

Benefits

  • A total rewards package covering pay, benefits, and support for physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
  • Challenging work with chances to build your skills and knowledge.
