Description

The company has more than 80 years of history in science and serves commercial, government, academic and healthcare clients with analytical solutions and OneSource services.

The team works to improve patient lives by speeding up the delivery of life-changing therapies through well-run life sciences projects across their full lifecycle.

Team members work with cross-functional colleagues to build trusted client relationships and a strong customer experience. They also help grow the business by spotting opportunities and using data to guide planning on cost, schedule and performance.

The team looks for people who are curious, personable and unselfish, with a patient-focused and people-first outlook.

This is an advanced individual contributor role for someone with deep technical skill and a growing record of leading complex workstreams. You will tackle high-impact technical and operational problems, support technical decisions, and help improve standards, methods and best practices. You will work largely on your own, mentor junior and peer engineers, and work closely with project and people leaders. The role does not include formal people management.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clients, vendors, contractors and team colleagues on biomanufacturing projects across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Use your advanced technical skills to build and maintain project schedules and track project performance for project teams and clients.
  • Work directly with project managers, client managers and site staff to build detailed integrated schedules.
  • Deliver high-quality work and build lasting client relationships while growing your technical and industry knowledge.
  • Lead these project controls deliverables: summary plans and milestone reports, detailed execution schedules, activity tracking and variance reports, budget estimates, cost reports and forecast trend reports, issue, risk and scenario analysis, scope and change impact analysis, and comprehensive monthly status reports.
  • Analyse complex project data and present clear, concise messages that support decisions.
  • Share project information internally in good time and pass on in-field decisions, highlighting long-range and downstream impacts on the project and team.
  • Prepare project controls reports, dashboards and management summaries on your own.
  • Use input from project coordinators, field teams and other disciplines, while staying accountable for the final project controls outputs.
  • Give hands-on support and troubleshooting to clients working through the engineering lifecycle of advanced equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain project tools including site dashboards, detailed schedules and deliverable trackers.
  • Carry out due diligence and quality checks on subject areas to produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Raise roadblocks early, escalate them, and use critical and problem-solving thinking to find creative fixes.
  • Build alignment with client departments such as Design, Construction, Validation, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain and Engineering.
  • Keep building your project controls expertise in life sciences, covering capital projects (CAPEX) for new and existing facilities, facility shutdowns and turnarounds, technology transfers, enterprise system integrations, the validation lifecycle (commissioning and qualification, process validation, computer system validation), quality, regulatory and compliance, GxP automated systems, quality control (commercial and construction) and operational readiness.
  • Own schedule, cost and performance management: develop and update schedules, cost models, progress tracking tools and performance reports.
  • Handle schedule logic updates, progress status, forecasting, variance analysis and recovery planning.
  • Maintain the integrated project schedule, including baseline management, updates and look-ahead planning.
  • Track installed quantities, productivity and earned value to improve cost and schedule forecasts.
  • Monitor cost performance, change impacts and forecast trends together with the project manager.
  • Spot schedule and cost variances, risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation or recovery actions.
  • Prepare and issue weekly, monthly and ad-hoc internal and external project controls reports.
  • Build and maintain project dashboards and performance metrics that match project and corporate requirements.
  • Analyse schedule, cost and performance data in depth to support proactive decisions.
  • Put approved project controls systems, coding structures and procedures in place on the project and keep them running.
  • Keep project controls data accurate, consistent and reliable across systems and reports.
  • Advise project teams on controls processes, data requirements and reporting standards.
  • Help improve project-level controls workflows and reporting efficiency.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree (a master's is also acceptable) in technical sciences, engineering, regulatory or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience in project controls, general construction, cGMP facility start-up, project management and/or comparable military service.
  • Have advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Have 2-7 years of experience.
  • Be willing to travel as client project assignments require.
  • Preferred: Microsoft Project, Oracle Primavera P6 and/or Smartsheet experience is a plus.
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
