Description

The company has more than 80+ years of scientific work behind it and offers analytical solutions and OneSource services, backed by a global service network and distribution centers. Its customers include commercial, government, academic, and healthcare organizations.

The team delivers life sciences projects across their full lifecycle, with the goal of getting life-changing therapies to patients faster.

Team members build trusted client relationships, improve the customer experience, and help grow the business by spotting opportunities and using data to guide planning, cost, schedule, and performance decisions.

The team looks for curiosity, a personable style, and an unselfish approach, along with a patient-focused, people-first mindset.

This is an advanced individual contributor role. You bring deep technical expertise in your discipline and a growing record of leading complex workstreams. You apply that expertise to hard technical and operational problems, support technical decisions, and help shape standards, methods, and best practices. You work largely independently, mentor junior and peer engineers, and partner closely with project and people leaders. The focus is technical delivery, not formal people management. The posting also refers to this role as Principal Engineer.

You must live in one of the team's main markets and be willing to travel within the country to meet client project requests.

Responsibilities

  • You will work with clients, vendors, contractors, and team members on biomanufacturing projects across the whole engineering lifecycle.
  • You will use advanced technical skills to build and maintain project schedules and track project performance. This includes working directly with project management, client management, and site staff on detailed integrated schedules.
  • You will deliver high-quality work, build lasting client relationships, and keep your technical and industry knowledge current.
  • You will lead these project controls deliverables:
  • Overview plans and milestone reports
  • Full project schedules for execution
  • Reports tracking activities and variances
  • Budget estimates, cost reports, and trend-based forecasts
  • Reports on issues, risks, and what-if scenarios
  • Analyses of how scope and change affect the project
  • Complete monthly status reports
  • Analyze complex project data and communicate findings clearly and concisely so decisions can be made.
  • Pass field decisions to internal teams quickly, explaining their long-term effects on the project and team.
  • Prepare project controls reports, dashboards, and management summaries on your own.
  • Use inputs from project coordinators, field teams, and other disciplines, while staying accountable for the final project controls output.
  • Give hands-on help and troubleshooting to clients working through the engineering lifecycle of advanced equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Keep project tools current, including site dashboards, detailed schedules, and deliverable trackers.
  • Run due diligence and quality checks on subject areas to produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Raise roadblocks early and escalate them, then use critical and problem-solving thinking to find creative fixes.
  • Align with client departments such as design, construction, validation, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering.
  • Keep building your project controls expertise in life sciences, including CAPEX for new or existing facilities, facility shutdowns and turnarounds, and technology transfers.
  • Keep building expertise in enterprise system integration, validation lifecycle work (commissioning, qualification, process validation, computer system validation), and quality, regulatory, and compliance.
  • Keep building expertise in GxP automated systems, commercial and construction quality control, and operational readiness.
  • Develop, maintain, and update schedules, cost models, progress tools, and performance reports directly.
  • Handle schedule logic updates, progress status, forecasting, variance analysis, and recovery planning.
  • Maintain the integrated schedule, including baseline management, updates, and look-ahead planning.
  • Track installed quantities, productivity, and earned value to improve cost and schedule forecasts.
  • Monitor cost performance, change impacts, and forecast trends with the project manager.
  • Find schedule and cost variances, risks, and opportunities, and recommend mitigation or recovery steps.
  • Prepare and issue weekly, monthly, and ad hoc internal and external project controls reports.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and performance metrics that meet project and corporate needs.
  • Analyze schedule, cost, and performance data in depth to support proactive decisions.
  • Put approved project controls systems, coding structures, and procedures in place on the project.
  • Keep project controls data accurate, consistent, and sound across systems and reports.
  • Advise project teams on controls processes, data needs, and reporting standards.
  • Help improve project-level controls workflows and reporting efficiency.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree (or a master's) in technical sciences, engineering, regulatory, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of experience in project controls, general construction, cGMP facility start-up, project management, and/or comparable military service.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required.
  • A plus: experience with Microsoft Project, Oracle Primavera P6, and/or Smartsheet.
  • 2-7 years of experience is required.
  • You must be willing to travel as client assignments require.
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Conditions

This is a full-time position.

Locations: Boulder, CO; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Pasadena, CA; San Diego, CA; South San Francisco, CA; and customer sites in CA, OR, and TX.

You must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The company will not sponsor work visas now or in the future for this role.

The role may require significant travel for project and business needs. Applicants need a valid driver's license, and those without one cannot be employed.
