Description

Manhattan Community Board 10 (CB10) is hiring a Program Manager to coordinate the Board's communications, digital engagement, community outreach, and College Internship & Volunteer Program.

You will work day to day with the District Manager, Board leadership and committees, City agencies, elected officials, community groups, schools, businesses, residents, and other stakeholders.

The role suits someone organized who writes well, manages projects, understands digital communications and community engagement, and can juggle many priorities in a public-sector setting.

Responsibilities

  • Run the communications calendar and keep the website, email, newsletters, social media, public notices, flyers, announcements, and other public materials current.
  • Update CB10's WordPress website.
  • Write, edit, and proofread public communications, making sure they are accurate and go out on time.
  • Build digital campaigns that promote Board meetings, hearings, surveys, events, programs, and civic participation.
  • Keep digital content and communications archives, and send public inquiries to the right place.
  • Design and run a structured internship and volunteer program that supports CB10's communications and community engagement.
  • Recruit interns and volunteers through colleges, universities, and academic programs.
  • Handle onboarding, training, assignments, supervision, weekly deliverables, evaluations, and professional growth for interns and volunteers.
  • Check intern and volunteer work for accuracy, professionalism, accessibility, and compliance before anything is published.
  • Create and carry out outreach plans to bring more people into CB10 activities.
  • Organize outreach at community events, public meetings, hearings, and neighborhood gatherings.
  • Build ties with residents, schools, colleges, tenant associations, businesses, community and civic groups, cultural institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Find ways to reach groups and neighborhoods that do not usually take part in Community Board activities.
  • Attend Full Board and committee meetings as assigned and handle the related communications and outreach.
  • Help prepare meeting announcements, presentations, public hearings materials, flyers, talking points, resolutions, and other Board business.
  • Maintain work plans, calendars, project trackers, measurable objectives, and performance indicators.
  • Write periodic reports for the District Manager and suggest ways to improve communication and engagement work.
  • Duties may change to meet CB10's operational needs, within New York City rules, civil service requirements, and personnel policies.

Requirements

  • Either a bachelor's degree from an accredited college and two years of community work or community-centered experience in an area related to the duties above.
  • Or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of community work or community-centered experience in an area related to the duties above.
  • Or a combination of education and experience equivalent to either option above, provided you have at least one year of experience as described in the degree option.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer that works to keep its workplace free from discrimination and harassment based on any legally protected status.
