Product Owner

Description

The company needs a Product Owner to turn operational needs into clear, actionable work for the development team.

You own the product backlog and rank work by its effect on operations. You work with government SETA staff, the Operator community, UX designers and software developers to deliver solutions that fit the mission strategy.

The role gives you exposure to hardware integration components, so you need the drive to build a solid working understanding of them.

Responsibilities

• Lead backlog grooming, increment and sprint planning, and capacity allocation with the development teams so releases meet system requirements.
• Talk with the IPT software lead, architect, scrum teams, systems engineering, integration and test, scrum masters and other product owners each day to plan increment and sprint work.
• Judge business needs and turn them into practical technical solutions that make work more efficient, add capability or improve the user experience.
• Deliver and manage scalable, reliable and sustainable solutions in complex technical settings.
• Review existing solutions, spot limits or chances to improve, and make changes that keep adding value over time.
• Record lessons learned for use in future planning and retrospectives.
• Track sprint metrics such as capacity versus load, velocity and burndown, and give timely input to the monthly PMR package.
• Use development performance and Operator feedback to shape backlog refinement and roadmap decisions.
• Keep bugs and requests from the operational community prioritised in the backlog.
• Understand Operator needs and convert them into sprint items the software team can build.
• Give every feature clear acceptance criteria so each sprint produces working software.
• Present and contribute at the Engineering Review Board and increment planning sessions, and give updates at the Change Control Board when needed.
• Help the team produce end-of-increment and release planning documents.

Requirements

• Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Working knowledge of software development processes and tools, such as Agile methods, GitLab and Command Prompt.
• Comfort working quickly in an Agile environment.
• Experience running sprints with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Nice to have: Experience with cloud development and production environments, such as DAF CloudWorks or Platform One (P1).
• Nice to have: Previous Electronic Warfare (EW) experience.
• Nice to have: Certified Scrum Product Owner or a similar Agile certification.
• Nice to have: A technical background, or the ability to work closely with engineers on architecture discussions.
• Nice to have: Experience using data and analytics to guide sprint and increment decisions.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with UX/UI principles and user-centred design.

Conditions

The pay range for this role in Virginia is $200,000 - $250,000 USD.

Pay depends on factors such as location, federal contract labor category, wage rates, experience, skills, education and certifications.
