Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer

The company is hiring a Principal or Senior Principal Systems Engineer (levels 3 and 4) for its Defense Systems business, in the Strategic Mobile Command and Control (SMC2) group in Huntsville, AL.

The role supports the Base Operations Networks (BONEs) programs, which provide network infrastructure and services at tactical operational sites.

You will help design, build, integrate, test and sustain mission-critical architectures, plus network and recording products used by warfighters and customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Assist the SE Architecture Lead on the assigned architecture.
• Prepare customer briefings on new equipment, obsolete equipment and technical issues.
• Help the SE Lead run small test and integration events, track them, and write daily status reports for the customer.
• Help the SE Lead write platform-level test objectives and review product test objectives.
• Take part in customer meetings with PM ACE/CUAS Network and USG Capabilities Leads.
• Help build and manage project milestones.
• Work with other BONEs teams on new and obsolete equipment.
• Work with other BONEs teams on plans for deploying hardware, software, firmware and similar items.
• Help the SE Lead develop and carry out priorities and plans based on USG direction.
• Send customers updates on your projects.
• Write test reports for high-priority product releases.
• Write deployment recommendations for high-priority products.
• Set up and keep the architecture roadmap current.

Requirements

• Principal: 5 years of experience with a STEM bachelor's degree, 3 years with a master's, or 1 year with a PhD.
• Senior Principal: 8 years of experience with a STEM bachelor's degree, 6 years with a master's, or 4 years with a PhD.
• Active DoD Secret clearance.
• Knowledge of Agile development processes.
• Experience working in Agile using Atlassian tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
• Ability to work on site in Huntsville.
• Travel of at least 15%, with possible travel outside the continental US (OCONUS).
• Preferred: experience with C-UAS architectures and the company's products.
• Preferred: experience with Lucen Timeline (formerly Office Timeline) or MS Project.
• Preferred: experience building milestone schedules.
• Preferred: experience in customer-facing roles and leading a multi-discipline team.
• Preferred: experience with trade studies, SRRs, PDRs and CDRs.
• Preferred: experience writing test reports.

Conditions

Secret clearance is required before the start date.

Relocation assistance may be available.

Travel is about 10% of the time.

Primary level base salary: $108,800.00 to $163,200.00.

Secondary level base salary: $135,800.00 to $203,600.00.

These ranges are a general guideline. The company weighs the scope and responsibilities of the role, your experience, education, skills and current market conditions when setting base pay.
