Description

The company's Aerospace Systems group is hiring a Principal or Senior Principal Engineer for DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources or Material Shortages) to join its team.

The role is full time, on-site in San Diego, CA (preferred) or Palmdale, CA. Remote, hybrid and telework are not available.

The team works on long-lived aerospace systems, so obsolescence planning carries real weight over the life of each product.

Responsibilities

  • Lead obsolescence mitigation work: schedule meetings and briefings, set discussion topics, prepare agendas and write minutes.
  • Take part in working groups and ad hoc committees and meetings.
  • Analyze production and sustainment needs and build strategic obsolescence roadmaps for end-of-life subsystems and components, weighing reliability, spares posture, technology insertion plans, supplier capability and customer agreement.
  • Gather, record, track and verify data from several sources, and keep mitigation records up to date.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve obsolescence issues at the lowest cost without giving up quality or reliability.
  • Engage senior management to coordinate and integrate DMS resolution activities.
  • Help build program metrics that show how well obsolescence mitigation is working.
  • Organize, integrate and lead group projects that pull obsolescence data into a single system view.
  • Find and pursue process improvements.
  • The role may be filled at Principal Engineer or Senior Principal level, depending on how your qualifications match the criteria below.

Requirements

  • Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 3): a Bachelor's of Science in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of related experience, or a Master's of Science in a STEM discipline plus 3 years of related experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline plus 1 year of related experience.
  • Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 3): 2 years of experience in proactive DMSMS or obsolescence management.
  • Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 3): advanced MS Excel skills, including extensive formula work, pivot tables and charts, and macros.
  • Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 3): an active Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 3): ability to obtain and keep a U.S. Government issued Top Secret, Special Access Program (SAP) and SCI clearance within a timeframe the company considers reasonable.

  • Senior Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 4): 3 years of experience in proactive DMSMS or obsolescence management.
  • Senior Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 4): experience leading analyses that span complex, multifunctional disciplines.
  • Senior Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 4): advanced MS Excel skills, including extensive formula work, pivot tables and charts, and macros.
  • Senior Principal Engineer DMSMS (Level 4): an active Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.

  • Preferred: previous project management experience.
  • Preferred: experience with data mining techniques.
  • Preferred: relevant experience in adjacent logistics support areas such as Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) and Maintenance Planning, Modeling and Simulation (ModSim), Support Equipment Engineering (SEE), Prognostics and Health Management (PHM), Supportable Low Observables (SLO), Obsolescence Management, Training and Training Systems, Technical Data, Support Hardware, Fleet and Field Support, and Product Support Management.
