Description

This is a 100% remote role for people living in the US, UK, or the EMEA region.

The company runs a fully managed crowdsourced testing platform, built on its own AI technology called LeoCore, which places expert testers on demand into customers' release processes. Its coverage spans 600,000+ devices, 800+ payment methods, 150+ countries, and 100+ languages.

The company is hiring a Principal Architect as a hands-on individual contributor to shape the application and platform architecture. The work is to produce production-ready systems for its next generation of intelligent, distributed testing products.

As a foundational technical leader, you will steer a major platform transformation and make structural decisions that weigh near-term delivery against long-term scale.

You will add practical AI features to high-throughput parts of the product and help turn the core monolith into a distributed network, working alongside product and executive leaders.

The company is growing, profitable, and cash-strong. Its model is global, enterprise, and subscription-based. Several of its largest clients have stayed for 7+ years, and many spend $500K+/year.

The team calls itself TestLions. You will build digital experiences for customers and also contribute to the company's freelance tester network.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable, production-grade services across the core platform.
  • Write clear architecture standards and reference patterns that set domain boundaries and guide the split of the current codebase into modular services.
  • Work with the Director of Engineering to consolidate the frontend frameworks, improving operational performance and observability.
  • Design with security, cost efficiency, and ISO 27001 requirements in mind from the start.
  • Build secure AI and LLM patterns into customer-facing features, with strict operational guardrails and defined failure modes for the Quality API.
  • Advise executive, product, and engineering leaders on major technical trade-offs, turning business needs into sound technical strategies.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience building cloud-native, business-critical platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of distributed system patterns, data modeling, event-driven design, and both relational and NoSQL databases.
  • A proven record of migrating application infrastructure from monoliths to modular services.
  • Substantial experience setting enterprise patterns on AWS, with a focus on high availability, cost optimization, and secure infrastructure.
  • Working familiarity with modern full-stack environments, including frontend web frameworks, scripting languages, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience running AI/ML or LLM-based solutions in production, with an emphasis on observable, safe automation.
  • Fluent English, with strong written and verbal communication, especially when presenting complex architecture to business leaders.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-moving, ambiguous settings and take ownership of problems without being asked.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a focus on alignment, able to guide distributed engineering teams and technical peers without formal authority.
  • Sharp analytical thinking that balances a broad long-term technology vision with short-term implementation limits.
  • A preference for remote-first work, with the ability to document technical decisions clearly and asynchronously across global time zones.

Conditions

The role is fully remote, and the company is distributed across time zones. It provides tools and guidance so you can work asynchronously and succeed in your career from home. The company encourages clear decisions, open communication, and a sustainable pace.

The interview process usually takes 3 to 4 weeks. It includes a recruiter interview, a stakeholder interview, and a technical exercise, with conversations across several team members.

Benefits

  • Flexible paid time off, including national holidays, personal days, and sick days.
  • Stock options.
  • A $300 annual learning stipend for personal and professional development.
