Description

The company is a global healthcare technology business with 95,000 staff in more than 150 countries, and its products improve the lives of over 72+ million patients a year.

The team, part of the company's digital technologies group, builds new connected products that bring live guidance and decision support into the operating room. Work includes compact, high-performance embedded systems for edge computing and connectivity, a connected ecosystem shared with other company teams, and computer vision to give surgeons a fuller view of procedures.

This role builds and runs the software engineering tools and architecture that help engineers work more efficiently, reliably and continuously improve. Scope runs from AWS resources managed as code in OpenTofu, to observability using OpenTelemetry, to support for AI agentic workflows. You will work with several software engineering groups to understand their problems and deliver practical solutions that are easy to maintain.

Responsibilities

  • Improve and maintain the infrastructure as code repository so engineers get strong cloud resource support.
  • Help build and refine CI/CD pipelines to make engineers faster, automating wherever possible.
  • Build observability tooling so engineers can find and diagnose issues themselves.
  • Identify gaps in developer productivity, then design and deliver fixes.
  • Mentor engineers within the team and across the wider organisation.

Requirements

  • Experience in platform engineering, DevOps or site reliability engineering, including infrastructure as code tools such as OpenTofu, EKS and Helm.
  • A record of making progress when requirements are unclear, breaking down complex problems and changing your approach as needs shift.
  • Experience designing, building and running distributed systems in production, with a sound grasp of trade-offs between performance, scalability and reliability.
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred), databases, APIs and modern DevOps practice.
  • You must be willing to commute to London 2 to 3 days per week, though the exact arrangement is flexible.
  • Preferred: experience designing golden paths for engineers, such as internal developer platforms or developer experience products.
  • Preferred: Python skills, since code the team cannot write in infrastructure as code is generally Python.
  • Preferred: experience running production GitOps platforms that manage deployments for many applications.
  • Preferred: familiarity with governance, risk and compliance (GRC) engineering, automating security and compliance work through the platform.
  • Preferred: experience building agentic AI infrastructure, such as an AI coding agent that goes beyond markdown files in an IDE.

Conditions

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Expect to be in London 2 to 3 days per week.

The listed duties describe the general nature and level of the role and are not an exhaustive list.

Benefits

  • The package includes a competitive salary and flexible benefits.
  • You get access to a broad range of benefits, resources and compensation plans that support you at each career and life stage.
  • The UK pay range is 95,200.00 GBP to 142,800.00 GBP.
  • Final pay within this range depends on objective, job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills and qualifications, under the company's compensation framework.
  • The role is eligible for a short-term incentive, the MIP.
