Principal Network Engineer

Description

This is a principal-level Resident Engineer role in the Engineering job family (level TCP05) in the Netherlands, within the company's Professional Services team.

You will usually be dedicated to one customer and act as their main technical contact, working with them day to day on their production equipment.

The engineering job family covers designing, developing, analyzing, troubleshooting and debugging systems, software and solutions for research and development of the company's products, services and solutions. Its executive-level version involves leading engineering teams and setting technical strategy.

Responsibilities

• Be the go-to expert on the company's data center networking products, helping customers with network design, troubleshooting, hardware and software testing, documentation, best practices and automation.
• Take the lead on break/fix work, using advanced diagnostics to restore service quickly and lower the chance of the problem returning.
• Guide customers on Junos configuration and network design best practices.
• Build and maintain working relationships with internal teams and outsourced development partners on engineering design and development.
• Review designs and project work against technology and development standards, and give feedback that improves product quality.
• Bring specialist knowledge and engineering leadership to projects that span several parts of the organization.
• Bring new technologies into engineering projects and designs.
• Mentor and coach junior staff.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 6+ years in data center routing, switching and network architecture, with hands-on work on QFX, PTX, MX and EX series products.
• Proven ability to build test automation and write scripts in Python.
• Experience testing and certifying Junos and Junos EVO software features and their hardware.
• Fluency in Juniper Networks technologies and general networking, plus a deep understanding of a customer's specific deployments and use cases.
• Skill in empirical analysis, modeling and testing methods to validate product designs and specifications.
• Proficiency with the engineering design tools used to build components and solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and spoken communication in English and the local language, with the ability to present product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with senior management.
• Knowledge of cloud architectures, cross-domain engineering, design thinking, development fundamentals, DevOps, distributed computing, microservices, full stack development, a security-first mindset and user experience (UX).

Conditions

The role is hybrid, with an average of 2 days per week in a company office.

Up to 10% travel to customer sites is required.
