The Fire Team is hiring a Principal Fire Engineer to lead a local team, guiding and mentoring its members with support from senior colleagues.

The role suits an established consultant who wants to move up, or an engineer who wants to build their knowledge and design skills at a well-known fire safety consultancy.

The company is a Fortune 500 firm, and its Professional Services business reported revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Take fire engineering work from start to finish with little senior oversight, including CFD modelling, evacuation modelling and other analytical methods.
  • Manage design projects, and prepare and review the work of others.
  • Apply fire engineering across varied industries and technical methods, with a main focus on UK rules and markets.
  • Adapt standard procedures and methods from earlier assignments to solve new problems.
  • Take part in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
  • Lead the cost estimates for the technical work on projects.
  • Lead the performance review process for junior engineers by setting and tracking SMART goals for each team member.
  • Support and mentor less experienced staff as they work toward chartered status.

Requirements

  • A relevant degree or professional qualification.
  • Chartered status (CEng) in fire engineering or a related discipline, which is essential.
  • Work experience in a similar consultancy or another relevant business.
  • Proven experience across varied sectors and technical fire engineering applications, with a strong focus on UK regulations and markets.
  • Experience managing the fire engineering side of smaller to mid-sized design projects within set timescales and budgets.
  • Experience guiding entry-level fire engineers.
  • Experience preparing fee proposals and task variations for fire engineering work.
  • Preferred: experience leading and closely supervising a team of junior engineers on both people and project matters.
  • Preferred: a clear work history and proof of ongoing professional development and learning.

Applicant information is kept confidential under equal opportunity guidelines.

Benefits

  • Core and personalised benefits designed to support your future, wellbeing and lifestyle.
  • Career development opportunities.
