The principal network engineer leads network assessment, architecture, integration and divestiture work for mergers, acquisitions and business separations.

This is the technical lead role for evaluating acquired environments, setting integration strategy and running execution so acquired organisations meet enterprise networking and security standards.

The work mixes hands-on engineering with leading across infrastructure, security and M&A teams.

The team sits within a healthcare company.

Responsibilities

  • Work with acquisition, security, infrastructure and business stakeholders to set integration requirements.
  • Write technical plans and lead engineering through execution.
  • Spot technical risks, operational dependencies, deficiencies and integration costs.
  • Use the PADU model (preferred, acceptable, discouraged, unacceptable) to rate target inventories and recommend remediation.
  • Recommend modernization that improves performance, resiliency, security and supportability.

Requirements

  • Principal-level engineering experience in enterprise networking.
  • Deep knowledge of network architecture, design, implementation and operations.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, divestitures or large infrastructure transformations.
  • Strong grasp of network security, segmentation, routing, switching, data-center connectivity and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience assessing infrastructure and turning findings into workable integration plans.
  • Ability to work independently, lead technically complex work and influence technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with modern engineering practices and Agile.
  • Familiarity with Jira, GitHub, network orchestration, automation and similar engineering tools.
  • Preferred: M&A integration experience in any industry. Healthcare experience is considered beneficial.
  • Preferred: experience supporting large, complex enterprise environments.
  • Preferred: exposure to data-center consolidation, application integration and cloud connectivity initiatives.
  • Preferred: network automation or infrastructure-as-code experience.
  • Preferred: relevant networking or cloud certifications.
